blue 86 fiero motor

i am restoring (repairing) a 1987 fiero gt fastback with auto tran and 2.8L
v6.  i purchased a used motor. when it arrived it was blue not red l1986
like all feiro,s i have seen. the auto parts dealer tells me it is
compattable with and is the right motor to replace my 1987. can anyone
enlighten me. thanks bill  beck

the block and heads are normally black, the valve covers and intake are
red. All of this can be changed by anyone with a spray can.

As long as the starters on the right side, you've got half the battle.

Other than that, just confirm if your original engine was an internal or
external balance vs. the new one.
(you'd probably have to call the parts place on the new one unless you want
to take it apart!)
Look at your flex plate, and see if it's got a big weight welded to the
plate - that's external balance.
