1985 Fiero GT with 3 speed automatic tramsmission and A/C.
Total milage is 43,500 on the car, engine and transmission.

I just bought the car and do not know if the continous buzzing sound
comming from under the center console/hump/shifter is normal or not.

Can anyone tell me?

Fuel pump...

But to be sure - flip on the key but don't start the engine.
Noise goes away after 1.5 seconds?  Yep....  Fuel pump....

The '85s SEEMED to be a bit noisier than later years - though they're more
or less all the same.

Makes sense. I will test tomorrow if the noise goes away after 1.5
seconds. Will let you know if that is what happens. Thanks in advance.

Keep an ear on it though - if it starts getting louder - or if the
pitch/frequency goes down (i.e., it's slowing!) - get a new one NOW
(!!!!!!).

That and/or keep your AAA card and a cell phone handy.  ;)

Yeah - I managed to get a full tank of gas the day before mine failed.

On a do-over. @65,000mi I'd run the tank near empty and put in a new fuel pump. I'd also check the
sender unit and clean it as required.

Anyone else get a lot more than 65,000 (or a lot less?)

Dave S.
