problem with shifting

i cant seem to get the shifter in to any gears when i tighten the
linkage up but if i have them less then finger tight then they will go
into every gear until i try and drive the car i ve been messing with
it for like two weeks and im not seeming to get anywhere at all its a
85 fiero gt with the 2.8 with a 4spd munchie trans any help would be
greatly apperciated email me at wrabbit2003@msn.com if you think you
have any ideas on how to fix this particular problem

If it works with things loose but not tight, you can narrow things down.
Try tightening different parts to see which ones can be tightened down.

As far as I know, there are no adjustments on any of the shift cables on the
Fieros.  That means that it shouldn't matter if you tighten them or not.

On some of the shifters, a pivot bushing has been known to crack and make
shifting more difficult.  You might want to tighten things up and look
closely at each of the pivot points to see if you can see something that is
not moving right.
