Does anyone know how I might find out information about the original
owner of a very old car, based on the license plate number?
Here's the situation:
My grandfather's biological father was cut out of his life when he was
4 years old. I mean quite literally cut out -- great-grandma cut up all
the family pictures! And we have very little information about him;
just the name from grandpa's birth certificate. One of the old photos
does have a car, and a license plate clearly visible, from around 1920.
I was hoping the vehicle records might show an address or maybe some
other information to go on.
Any thoughts?
thanks, Katy

I don't know how you'd find anything based on a license number, but
I've done some geneological research and you at least have a birth
certificate. Go to your state historical society (there's bound to be
one), where you can search through death certificates. In Kentucky,
these are all on computer, so it's fairly easy to find. At that point,
you can match up birth and death dates, and find out who his parents
were, when and where he died, his last address and who reported the
death. Tons of information can come out of that.
