I have a 37 chevy sedan I purchased without a title in Texas.  I contacted
Broadway Title and they asked me for a vin or serial number off a body tag.
It is a master deluxe and the serial number starts with GA and Broadway says
it should start with a GB, followed by 5 digits.  Any ideas on what to do
next?

Any car that old is likely to be a mishmash of parts. People would put on
anything that would fit to keep these running during WWII. I don't know the
specifics of Chevrolets, but Ford put serial numbers in at least two places
during that period. Perhaps you can find another number elsewhere on the car. In
my opinion, if you can find one on the frame, that would be best.

It's also possible that Broadway is wrong. You could try another title company.

As a last resort, you might check into getting a title as a car assembled from
parts. This is frequently done with custom autos (hot rods).

This brings up a good question.

Does anyone know a listing of companies that deal in replacement titles for
classic cars?  I've been asked about it before, but since I've never needed
such, I had no idea.  It'd be handy to have a list to offer folks that ask.

Tell Broadway Title that VINs for Master Deluxes do indeed say
GA. GB is reserved for the solid axle Master series. Two web
pages that might be useful to you are

http://chevy.tocmp.com/chevyresto/3702.htm

and

http://home.znet.com/c1937/ID.htm

although this one is missing the GA information...
