I have just bought a Hotrod with a Ford inline six engine.
I have however not been able to identify what type/year/size engine it
is, so maybe someone on this group could help me?

The engine is overhead valve, has intake manifold cast into the cylinder
head on the passenger side, and the exhaust manifold bolts to the head
on the passenger side.
Distributor, Fuel pump and Oil filter (twist-on) is located on the
drivers side.

Here is a picture of this engine:

Any suggestions/help would be appreciated.

That's either a 144 CID or 177 CID Falcon engine. It dates from the early to mid
60's.

Having had mufflers go bad on cars that had them, I can guarantee you that one's
loud.

actualy ,it looks like either a 200 or a 250 the 144 and 170 have 3 freeze
out plugs, and the 200 and 250 have 5 freeze out plugs.

I looked into putting a 200 into my '61 Econoline at one time. The exhaust system is
on the other side.

if the exhaust on the 200 was on the other side of what was in your van,
than you did not have a ford 6 cylinder in it. the 144,170,200,and 250 all
use the same head design. the diference is in the valve sive, carb opening
size, and exhaust size.it is not uncommon to put a 250 head on a 144 or 170
as a hop up to  gain power.
a good reference book to have is   the ford falcon six cylinder performance
handbook ,by dennis and david schjeldahl. it goes into detail on building a
killer six cylinder ford.

Didn't Ford make a 190 at one time? Seems to me that's what was
in my '64 Econoline.

144,170,200,and 250 were the same, then there was the 240 and 300 six
cylinders
