Can anyone advise of types of water bladders available? I have been checking
out the Aust. 4wd sites for same, but they dont give much detail. Have you
got one? Would you recommend ? Any advise would be welcome. We like the
concept of using up the floor space behind us as no one sits in the back -
makes good sense to us, although we have heard they are quite exy.
Thanks Kathy.

ARB etc have them, but quite exe for what they are. If you carry it in
plastic containers you can remove them to lighten the load if stuck. That
floor space is great for soft stuff like clothes, tents, washing etc. Keep
the heavy stuff behind a cargo barrier.

Thanks Jim,
I know the plastic containers you mean but unable to locate any of them -
any ideas?

I just use the ones from K Mart , Super Cheap or whatever. Strong and
durable (don't put it all in 1 container, its easier to handle two 10L ones
than one 20L one). I've used them longer than I can remember, no hassles or
smell. There's nothing quite like drinking water from home when far away :)
You can freeze water in a fridge and let it thaw out as you go along. Great
for the forhead in the real heat, wrap it in a cloth if you must.
I work on around 5L a day in hot weather and about 2-3 in colder weather. If
water is liable to be scarce I only wash the unmentionable bits with water
on a cloth at night. Don't worry about the smell, everyone smells the same
after a few days so they don't notice you :) If you must have a shower use
water from elsewhere (NOT bore water, thats for the cattle and poor country
folk :)) , not the drinking water.
And be careful using bore water if washing clothes (NEVER  wash anything in
an actual bore itself or stream of course) be careful. Years ago I lived in
bore country for a while. My clothes disintegrated after a few months.
I was back there two years ago. $100 a night in a posh motel...but only
bloody bore water to shower and clean my teeth with ...YUK! You'd think
they'd make an effort for that price.
Are you reading this Rod ?...now I'm going to get slammed because I have
clean water from a tap at home and expect it in the bush I suppose :))))
Cheers

Mate, the rainwater here is precious as gold, is double filtered before it
makes it to the house, and tastes like heaven, in my opinion.  I HATE
travelling to the smoke, and not being able to take enough rainwater with me
from home...We usually drink 2-3 litres of water on average (probably 4-5
litres in summer), and it's interesting to see people who dont drink a lot
of water when they visit here, and how the heat knocks them about a lot
more. For years, we always had a water cooler sitting on the bench in the
kitchen, but it was annoying how much ice we kept in summer to keep
replenishing the cooler. I was in a kitchen supply shop 4 years ago, and saw
something that gave me an idea...We now actually have a beer tap off the
side of the coldroom outer wall, which is fed by a 20L water drum inside on
the top shelf of the coldroom, filled via a float valve feeding from the
rainwater pressure line. It keeps about 16L chilled to about 4 degrees c,
and this provides us with a pretty much endless supply.  Best thing I ever
did, that beer tap. Easy to fill up a waterbottle for a trip out in the
paddock, and no need to keep filling water coolers.

A lot of bore water (especially artesian) is quite high in salts and soda,
which makes it for very average drinking.  However, I have been told much of
the bad stuff in the water(ie that which makes you feel crook) is actually
dissolved gases like methane. Leaving it for a night or so in an open
container apparently improves the taste no end(the gas dissapates out of the
water).  However, I prefer the sharper taste of rainwater than your average
bore water...Even a bit of 'tang' from an elderly galvanised tank (with
resident frogs)tastes better!

I know what you're saying about the expensive motel with the crap water.
Stayed at a motel in Cunnamulla on work some 6 years ago, and was appalled
at the taste of the water when brushing my teeth.  I thought I was going to
throw up.  What I couldnt understand was the huuuge earthern embankment
around the North & Western sides of the town to keep the bloody river out,
and we are using pongy bore water to bathe in!  Seemed almost criminal to
me...I seriously thought about not brushing my teeth the following night...
They tell me the bloody stuff is great for your hair, but not if you cannot
bear being in the shower!

Cheers,

Rod, Barnsie will have a fit ! A beer tap with water ! hahahahah. Cool !
*pun intended*.
What a great idea.
Yep, bro accidently flushed loo while sitting on it. The *warmish* bore
water gave him an interesting experience.
Agree with your comments re Cunumulla. My experience was just up the road in
Charleville. I never had to use bore water for anything but the loo and
washing clothes till I stayed at that motel. And I lived there for 18 months
30 years ago. I couldn't wait to get out, that time and this. Thats one town
where the attitudes of people haven't changed for 30 years. It still has a
small country distrust of travellers. Pity as its not exactly holding its
own. Embracing tourism has been a Godsend for many small towns....but I
don't need to tell you that.

Cheers
