The oil light came on on my Nissan Patrol yesterday.
The oil was still full, but just in case I decided to do a complete oil &
filter change anyway, in case.
I Changed both oil filters and the oil, and despite it now still registering
full on the dipstick, and no sign of leaks anywhere, the oil light is still
on.
It has been fading in and out occasionally, but primarily on.

I know there is a leak in the power steering fluid (new hose fitting being
installed tomorrow) the oil warning light wouldn't be referring to the power
steering fluid would it?

Any other possible causes problems to look for?

Thanks in advance

I had this problem on a commodore after I washed the engine bay
towed it home to be sure to be sure and after testing oil pressure with a
guage I realised it was the sender

First thing to check is the oil pressure sender and gauge.
If they appear to be ok you need to find someone with an oil pressure
gauge that screws directly into where the sender goes to get another oil
pressure reading.
Hopefully its just the gauge.

oil pressure senders have a habit of failing.

take the chance to fit a VDO gauge one while your at it.

Thanks everyone.
Your advice is greatly appreciated.

As soon as I can FIND where the sender actually IS it will help :)
In the meantime, just in case I'm driving the old Suzuki instead till I know
just what's going on.
Last thing a diesel engine needs is to be run without proper oil supply.

Thanks again for all your help.

Oil gauge sender is near the filters.
