Comeing back from a trip to waterfall way near Coff's in my 4.0 V8 Diso
and up ahead was another one banked up behind a bunch a slow movers.
A passing lane came up and it pulled out to over take the slow movers.
This thing just took off and with my foot to the floor I couldn't stay
with it, it just exploded and took of, no smoke, nothing.
I commented to the missus that that must have a hell of a V8 in it,
probably chipped or something.
We eventually caught up to it and it was a TD5, at least that was what
it said on the back, I was gob smacked, like I said, no smoke, nothing,
I though these things were only 2.5 litres, what the f###.

Go drive a Subaru Forester XT if you think 2.5 litres in a larger vehicle
means no guts ;)
Easily flog an SS commy...

Although, turbo diesels are completely in their element in overtaking
moves - massive torque for the capacity.

V8's are also completely in their element for overtaking moves, massive
power & acceleration, caravan or not. :-)

Probably a well worked 4.0 with diesel badges and someone who will give it
the whole boot.
My old 76 carby 3.9 V8 left many other Rangies for dead, other than a 4.6
that kicked my arse once.

It's half in the driver though.

One night, three consecutive sets of traffic lights, me in my Starlet, two
blokes on opposite sides in near-identical Rav 4s. One auto, one manual.

I beat the auto Rav 4 (to 100kph) by 2 or 3 metres, but the manual rav4 left
me for sh.t.

Who says autos are quicker than manuals - there was an easy 2 seconds 0-100
in it. And all cars involved were serious about 'winning', massive revs
thrown at our poor little 4cyls. Auto rav4 actually managed a chirp going
into second ;)

As far as I'm concerned your're not really trying unless you can get it to
chirp in 2nd, bit harder to do in an AWD Rangie though, 6 inches of diagonal
suspension squat is also a good indication, but makes steering interesting.

Both of my cars chirp into second with the right approach. Forester's AWD
too, but is partial to spinning the inside front under heavy acceleration
with a bit of a bend. Flat, straight ground, bloody impossible - the clutch
starts slipping before the wheels do!

My stock 4.2 patrol does it fine straight flat ground & 34" tyres, I'm
working on 3rd, but may need a leaf blower fitted.
Try harder, are you near the red line, and if you are increase it with a
black texta :)

The redline really is the redline in Subarus, cutout is exactly on the
redline.
My best attempt so far was about 5000rpm, but the amount of slip in the
clutch stopped me from doing it again. Feels nasty when you try to be nice
to your cars!

Even my ol 350,000km TB42 has seen 6500rpm a few times.

No problem chasing the redline, just not going to launch it that hard... i
want the diffs to remain intact, i doubt they were engineered for that kind
of shock, even if the clutch did clamp.

Remember, the clutch's secondary function is to act as a fuse for the
gearbox/drivetrain

Hehe, I like this topic :)

I shouldn't really put in my 2cents but I cant resist...

My ute will smoke the rears in 1st and 2nd gear no worries, and it'll chirp
3rd most of the time (if I nail it right)..

It isn't a 4wd, but it does have 265/50R14's on the back :)

Cheers Dre

That was the yelp of strain from the poor auto about to have a hernia.
