Chris - 26 Sep 2005 03:07 GMT Who knows anything about them? Having 4 fitted to the Paj today. They were cheap and looked fine so I said go ahead. Any good or bad stories? Chris.

Now what does it mean?
Apart from being on a Pajero, what sort of use will they have? highway? mud? rocks? sand? dirt roads? shopping? cruising the latte strip?
If none of the above apply, they'll be fine.
Chris - 26 Sep 2005 12:13 GMT >> IAWa > [quoted text clipped - 10 lines] > > If none of the above apply, they'll be fine. LOL! OK, so they're a sh.t tyre. Oh well. I know you get what you pay for and at $145 each, they didn't cost much compared to other new tyres of the same size. They'll only do highway miles, and if I get 2 years out of them I'll be happy. My last set of tyres I bought second hand, and paid $65 each for them. I got a year out of them. (50,000km.) I figure new tyres, 2 years is a reasonable ask. More is a bonus. I googled the brand, but didn't come up with much other than retailers that sell them. They're on the car now, and don't seem much louder, if at all, than the old ones. We'll see how they go. Chris.
atec - 26 Sep 2005 12:55 GMT >>>IAWa >> [quoted text clipped - 21 lines] > ones. We'll see how they go. > Chris. I use a brand of Asian tyre you have never heard of , $300.00 for a set of 4 in 215 x 15 and they wear brilliantly , stick well in all weathers and prove (imho) that price is not a true indication of performance and value , a brigy in the same size and twice the price doesn't perform noticibly better .

Until you go off road and the side walls get punctured oh so easily.
You pay for what ya get with 4x4 tyres, your cheapies may last very well and serve your purpose with ease but when I go off road I want some protection against ripping sidewalls and general puncture resistance. I doubt that the cheaper brands offer much in that direction.
Scotty.

What I see in your post is grasping at high priced straws to justify the price with out anything but subjective proof.Do better next time thanks for coming .

Why should I even attempt to justify anything to you! Ive stated facts here, if you have never driven off road (Not pussy offroad like graded dirt tracks!) you would know that tyres make the machine.

People who have been seriously into the scrub use bar tread cross-ply tyres, carry 3 spares and lots of spare tubes.
And if you aren't smart enough to own a vehicle with split rims, your Stenor bead breaker (or more modern equivalent) is your best friend.
31*10.5 BFGs are just peachy until you (inevitably) put a hole in it and are faced with the prospect of effecting your own repair.

Havnt used one yet and Ive been through a full set of 31-10.5/15 BFG ATs and one set of Cooper STTs. Others that I have travelled with have used many plugs to get home.
Figjam - 27 Sep 2005 13:18 GMT And how did you find the STT's Scotty ?

Scotty - 29 Sep 2005 09:02 GMT Apart from being very noisey (expected from aggressive tyres I suppose) they where blody good. Never had a pucture that didnt smash a wheel (only once) and they have fantastic traction in/on every thing but wet roads which made even a non turbo 204 Deisel get tail happy round corners. Wear was great, self cleaning treads worked well, I actually prefered them over the BFG Muddies. What else can I tell you, if muds your delight, get a set.

>>>Scotty. Chris - 27 Sep 2005 05:02 GMT You raise an excellent point there Scotty. However, in my case, the tyres will not see mush more than the odd gravel road. (Sadly) Chris

Chris - 27 Sep 2005 05:01 GMT You'd think so. I was fully prepared to be told they were a crap tyre. Fact was I needed new tyres and I needed them now, and these were a better deal in the long run than second hand tyres again. I never ask a question unless I'm happy to accept both good and bad options as answers. But I hear what you are saying. Chris

TrezaGreen - 27 Sep 2005 06:07 GMT > Who knows anything about them? Having 4 fitted to the Paj today. They were > cheap and looked fine so I said go ahead. Any good or bad stories? > Chris. My goodness what's all the fuss, it's obvious you all have'nt used them so how come so many experts, how do you know they wont work in the wet or off road, or that the sidewalls are going to puncture, how do you know they are "sh.t". They may well be a good GP tyre, in this case only time will tell as non of you all have used them, your comments are based on the fact that they are cheap in comparison to other brands, oh and that he drive a Pajero. Come on guys, until there is some feedback from Chris we wont know for sure.
TG...getting into a flame proof suit, flack jacket and helmet.

Generally speaking theres no "cheap" decent 4x4 tyre available in Australia otherwise you would see 1,000's of vehicels with them fitted instead of BFG or Yokos etc. Im not critisising Chris at all, some people have 4x4s for reasons other than offroading. For this the tyres that he has selected may do just fine. Chris's initial posts however failed to tell us what he/she used the vehicle for and we may have assumed wrongly that seeing as his post was in AUS.CARS.OFFROAD he was going to use them as the Pajero was designed for.
Flame jacket not required here, put on ya drinking shirt.
Barnsey - 27 Sep 2005 09:16 GMT And all that, then the replies..........
My post asking what they would be used for.......
Half sarcastics, half sensibles
Recurring threads in 4wd forums.........what are the best tyres...........what are the best 4wds?
It really DOES depend on what you want them to do.

Good point, I didn't say what I used the car for, however, I also did not ask whether the tyres were known to be good off road or not, but I do see what you are saying. The only reason I posted to aus.cars.offroad is because I lurk here a lot, and the fact that it is a Pajero that I drive. I don't know if the tyres in question are available in 'passenger family type sedan car size'. The Pajero takes a huge shoe. They're 265/75R15's. (Huge to me anyway!) Chris
