I'm looking to buy a portable generator suitable for backup power for the house and also for use in the bush. It needs to be
sinewave for use on computers.
So far the Honda eu10 or eu20 has taken my fancy, has anyone got one or are there others that you would recommend?
Thanks

I have had a Eu10 (1Kw) fro a number of years and have found it great.
When running close to full load ie. 1/2hp pump, engel, caravan
lighting, and using econo mode I have found that i get between 8 ~10
hrs per tank, which I find very economical, given the tank from memory
is just over 2 litres.
I have'nt tried it with a computer, but supposedly it has the sinewave
inverter to give clean power.
Prior to getting this one I "used" to own one of their earleir model
generators which I had for some 20 odd years till I was "naughty" with
and did some damage, whilst using the 12volt load I forgot to run it
at the higher speed ....

I think that any alternator based genny is going to be "full sine". In any
event, that isn't really required for desktop computers, they are after
nearly universally powered by "switch-mode" or "chopper" power-supplies
themselves and have quite a lot of circuitry simply to clean up and
smooth the DC from their own power supplies.
Indeed, if you look at nearly all of the UPS's on the market sold for
computers, only a trifling few at the very top of the market are anything
other than square wave or modified sine.
Domestic appliances such as TV, Microwave, cordless phone A/C etc are a
lot more "picky" about their power than your average PC.
Also items that run from plug packs are likely to give trouble as they
often have little capacity to filter "noise" from the supply line.

Looks like the Honda is the way to go, I haven't seen any bad reviews other than a few little hiccups which have to be expected.
