A bit far north, I reckon, but I'll have a go at drowning the Jeep up that
way anyway!

Beer mate? You should get down here for a bit of driving with Pete and I.
I reckon slej will be back here in Jan with the Paj after his lap last
weekend on the SV.

Hi Pisshead,

I did a few beach drives when I was there. The Seven Mile Beach turn off is
a few k's to the west of the turn off into Stanley. Lovely long, wide beach
that is legal to drive on.

Another at Strahan. Head out of town towards Hells Gate / Ocean Beach. At
Ocean Beach you can drive down onto the beach and drive as far as Hells
Gate. There is a road from Hells Gate back to Ocean Beach and then Strahan.
The road is a disgrace and will give your suspension a real workout. Easier
to come back along the beach.

On Bruny Island there is a mountain track from Adventure Bay to the other
side of the Island. Not "hard core" 4wd, but a great drive with a little low
range 4x4 required. You can come back on a bitumen road or turn around and
drive back. I did :)  Bruny Island is south of Hobart and accessed by a
ferry.

Thanks mate. I know what you mean about the Strahan road. I ventured along
that on the Harley and had to turn back and go find a pub for the kidneys
to recover!

Did you have any trouble with these sand sinks they talk about and are they
easy to spot (like a wet sand depression)?

Sand was hard in both places. Tyers had 50 psi for towing and didn't think
to drop the pressures :)  Both places had lots of traffic- 4wd's, quad
bikes, motor cycles.

Take a winch extender up the Jeffries Track. Biggus' mates with their lift
kits and muddies have dug it up pretty good! Don't bother to pay the
ferrymen at Brunie Island or Corinna. Ronn at the Tulla Tavern has good info
on west coast tracks, cold beer and stays open late! The track from
Granville Harbour to Pieman River is a bit of fun. You need a key for the Mt
McCall Track (ranger dude in Queenstown hides out near the mine) but Bird
River has some nice rainforest. Beaches are firm, only found one small sand
sink.
