G'day everyone. The missus has told me the home made timber roof racks have
to come off the little car. They are lashed on with bale twine & are
actually very very strong. The towels that are held on with elect tape do a
good job of keeping my goat boat protected from the wood.
The sad bit is the the above is actually true.
So ive asked at a 4x4 joint & they want $265 for rola. Supa cheap want $240
for another brand. Now the last time i bought roof racks was for my HG &
they were $30.
Do i have another option or am i just that far behind in what stuff costs
these days ??
Thanks
Boris

Its you buddy, you cant seel racks these days like the old ones, today they
are all about safety etc.
Rola are very very good but pricey. Try Autobarn for their ones, Ive fit my
van out with them and although $400 worth they are great. (ive got a heap of
extras for my $$$ though)

different at 100kph. Man i made a mess of physics at school.
I had hoped there were some on the market for about the $150 mark. I dont
mind paying the $260 odd though if nothing else is avail. Thought i'd ask
you guys as you would all know whats on the market.

Gid'day Boris
Has the Vitara got roof rails or do you need gutter mount bars.
If you have roof rails I have a set of Rola Aero bars (key lockable)
that may fit, just measure between the bars and let me know the measurment.
Cheers

You can see them here: http://www.rola.com.au/rola/
Scroll down to "Rola Universal Rail Bar".
Mine are adjustable and will fit rails from 810mm to 970mm wide.
They are as new in perfect condition, you can have them for $130 +
postage (assuming they will fit of course).
Cheers

You don't use bailing twine to hold your 2 tonne load in your box
trailer as well do ya??
any fuckwit who uses anything less that proper rope, straps or binders
to hold a surfboard/ski onto proper roof/board racks that are BOLTED to
the roof of a vehicle should be bashed repeatedly over the head with
said board and then strung up by the balls with their bailing twine
I have seen too many of these fly off vehicles and spear into other
vehicles, all have been fortunate enough to not be fatal, but serious
injury resulted in a few cases
My Ex had one smash into the front of out Hilux many years ago, it came
off a beetle two vehicles ahead of her, she said it went up about 20
feet and started spinning and speared towards the windscreen, if not for
the down draft fron the vehicle directly in front of her that pulled the
board down a bit it would have hit her instead of smashing into a
thousand pieces on the bullbar

Yes you are
how about you get a clue before you kill someone out on the road

Well 25 years of truck driving gives me the right to tie something down so
it wont come off. I have also had over 20 motorbikes & only know too well
the dangers of crap coming loose on cars/trucks
Do you know how many times i have lashed it ? No you dont ! Do you know what
the strenght of the rope is that is backing that up ? No you dont. Do you
know how many times that rope is crossed over the ski & under the roof bars
? No you dont.
I can only guarantee one thing...& that is that it is currently held on with
a damned sight more than the flimsy strips of rubber or occy straps that i
see all day long from up in a truck cabin. I suggest you engage your brain
before calling someone a fuckwit next time.

I believe you mentioned that you tied your wooden roof racks on with
bailing twine and then said it was very strong
so if you used rope why didn't you say rope
I have seen plenty of bailing twine used to hold sh.t onto the top of
cars for over twenty years from a truck cab as well
