Hi Guys,
looking to buy a fridge at the moment, as I'm getting sick of the esky being
full of iced water by the end of a Saturday in the bush...
I'm currently using a 26L Esky, and considering a Waeco TC-32FL from
fridgeshop.com.au ... The idea of being able to cool down the fridge on
mains before leaving home, and while at a powered site is pretty appealing.
Has anyone had good, bad, or indifferent experiences with this fridge?
Cheers,
Andrew

Know heaps of people with Waecos and no one has had a problem. I bought one
myself 3 weeks ago after much deliberation (between that and the Engel).
The Engels are OK, but it was a little pricey for me (OK, if you're real
hard core i guess). My 50L Waeco cost less than a 40L Engel and I got a
cover and mounting kit with it. Also, being plastic (which can be good or
bad) they are lighter. They have a battery saver option (good for those
like me with only one battery) and the new ones are coming out with digital
temp displays.
My only recommendation would be to go for the 40L or 50L as once you have
the fridge, you'll want to take heaps of stuff (beer and food) with you as
it is so convenient. They come with a 5 year warranty, so pretty well
covered.
Cheers,
W.

Andrew is this a proper fridge or a cooler?
I have a 3 way gas/12V/240V fridge/freezer, this option is great if you
are camping because you don't need to worry about flat batteries when on gas
I also have a 45L Waeco TC45G cooler
it is claimed to cool to 20-25deg below ambient which would be fine for
a day trip where you don't need to freeze anything but just keep it cool
one thing though, don't loose the power cables
some places are asking up to $50 for a replacement, Autobarn got me one
for $19

about 2 month ago i bought a CF-60, best money i have spent in a long time
on the car. It is a proper fridge, does from 10C to about -18C ( this is a
killer, when i first got it, set it 2 cold (only on 4 out of 7 on the temp
setting) and the beer froze, 1 of them splitting in the bottom DOH!) has a
danfos german compressor, also its foot print is small, same as the CF-50,
just taller. Has the mains built in now, so easier when u happen to be near
power.
What i dont like about it is the handles, when strapping the frisge down in
the car, the only way to do it is by the handles, and the plastic mountings
at the ends of the tube that is the handle just don't seem that strong, but
after saying that, they havn't broken or stretched yet.
apart from that, i'm happy with it (paid $999 for it)

have had a Cf50 for 4 years now and has never let me down once. Lots of day
trips over very rough tracks and 2 trips to Fraser island from melb. I
initially was looking at the Engle but what swayed me was the Engle had to
use a mounting tray or WTY was void. May be different now but was the case
when I was buying.I strap my fridge down to the drawer system using oke
straps through the handles, never a problem and mounts look good as new. We
have 5 people on board on Fraser trips and there is enough room for all the
stuff we need. At start of trip leave drinks out and put in as required and
as meat ect is eaten load in more drinks. Am thinking of buying a second
Waco (small) to use as a freezer. one thing you do need is a heavy supply
line to the power outlet you are using as they don't like voltage drop and
will often turn off thinking the battery is going flat.

We looked at a number of options when looking to buy a fridge as we wanted a
decent fridge that we could use both in the 4WD and also on the boat, as we
go away on the boat for a week at a time as well.
The best we came up with, in our opinion, was the Evakool RF47 at $1,100.
It has both a fridge and freezer compartment, is made of very thick,
insulated fiberglass (no rusting) and it has the compressor mounted on the
side of the fridge, not within it, allowing better heat dispersion.
Choice magazine did a test of car fridges and the Evakool also came out as
their best choice too.
The only thing I didn't like about Waeco was the fact that their fridges
seemed to be measured different to the Engell and Evakool. By that I mean
that the 50L Waeco seemed to have about the same internal room as the 40L
Evakool and Engell, so that is something you should also consider when
buying.
The main reason for not choosing the Engell was because it's casing is now
made of tin and it is very prone to rusting, especially in a marine
environment.
Our Evakool has not missed a beat since we purchased it and I would happily
recomend them.
