Third party bars for '02 Grand Vitara (+ other bits...)

Hi all,

a friend of mine has just purchased an '02 GV 5-door 2.5 V6.  It is
immaculate and runs like a bought one but now there are thoughts of throwing
some new fun bits on it.

Speaking with North Shore 4WDs (Artarmon, Sydney) I was told that there are
basically no 3rd party items for this vehicle due to their small numbers.
Regarding the bar, they said that the only option would be an original nudge
bar.  This car will be used in the bush as it was intended and so will
require better than that.

What are the polypropylene (or 'plastic') variants like in real life?  I can
only imagine they are pretty unattractive but good for keeping weight down
and for their ability to bend on impact and then bend back.

Any ideas?  Other items could eventually include lower gearing for low range
and possibly a 1" lift (depending on the insurer).  Foggies and light
protectors, window deflectors etc. are also on the list, but surely these
can be purchased from general auto outlets, yes?

I have done some googling but haven't found much yet.  Membership to the
Suzi 4wd club will certainly help with such matters.

This is a whole new domain and so your advice will be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Dave E (Sydney)

ARB do not make a bar for the GV however both ECB and TJM make
aluminimum bullbars with the ECB being slightly better styled IMHO.
about $1500

I would not waste my money on a plastic bar. Problem  is that they
bend then spring back; ie your radiator will be stuffed but the bar
will look fine.

When fitting a bullbar make sure you trim back the inner mudguard
plastic and put a splash deflector in front of the air intake (front
right)

Put some decent AT tyres on it. Running 225/70x16 (a little bigger
than standard) BF Goodrich AT on mine about $1100

Rear snatch point is weak on this model so a Hayman Reese towbar for
about $450 will give you towing capabilitiy and also a stronger
recovery point.

ECB have a stock/spring kit that will give about 1 1/2 inch lift.
Others have gone with customs lifts but the running gear will not
handle more than 2 inches without stress - about $1500

Outback also have a roller storage drawer for this model, about $900
