I wanna fit aftermarket wheels to a D40 Navara ST-X. The new model
which I'm picking up in two weeks. Was thinking 18" or 20". Problem is
I can't find anyone who can give me acurate information so i can choose
maximum size I can go to on the width & minimum on the profile. The
tyre stores give me the "she'll be right mate" just to sell me a set
but I don't want to stuff the front end, have rubbing or RTA problems.
Nissan head office have been no help with just the wheel offset. Anyone
have technical expertise in this area?

Geez don't Let Rod see this with concerns about Navara front ends
you'll be very sorry you bought it

this is a 2WD I take it
pretty pointless putting 20 inch wheels on a 4WD

Kve,

I have been biting my tongue...

Wouldnt the standard offset info be typed onto the factory rims?  I
recall the Navara came with mags that were marked with a code that
told you the offset info, as well as the rim size. I did have a look
to see if we had kept the third spare rim for the Pox-Box, but it
turns out that I have given it away.
I also thought I wrote this info down, but again, I seem to have
worked hrd at purging the memory of the POX BOX NAVARA CRAP HEAP
JUNK-PILE from my mind.

....Calm, Roddy, calm.....

Heh...good luck putting larger rim/tyres on a Navara.  I would be
having a VERY serious heart-to-heart with a good suspension specialist
before considering such a move. Not a tyre dealership; a suspension
specialist.  The Navara (4wd anyway) front suspension isnt very good
to begin with, and it is very difficult to make much in the way of
improvements that wont void your warranty (Not that the Navara
warranty means much anyway...).  Talk to a suspension specialist
first.

My 2 cents, but I'm prepared to give another 10 cents free cause some
poor bugger bought a Navara...

Cheers,

Sorry you feel that way about the Navara. I have owned in the past 15
years: 2 Pajeros,  3 Hilux's (one turbo diesel), the current Navara D22
ST-R and currently own a Rav4 with the new Navara ST-X on the way. All
of which were bought new. The best of them all is the Navara hands
down. This one will be purely for city driving, no offroad. And to
answer your next question......."yes i probably got more money than
sense.... but its great fun if you can do it !!! "

Mate!  Buy whatever you like!  Doesnt worry me one little bit...

Getting back to your original post, I still suggest you have a long
talk with a good suspension specialist, and maybe even more than one.
It was my first visit to a suspension specialist that I discovered the
2000 D22 Navara 4wd Single-Cab Trayback (QD32) wasnt very well
designed in the front end. I have also had a mech engineer who
specialised in bullbar and towbar design look at it one day(after
driving it on a dirt road for 10 kms), and he was horrified with the
design of that front end..

What you do with your own money is your right. I can think of better
things to blow my dollars on, but thats just my opinion.

Thanks... i'll take it on board but probably won't make any differance
as it won't leave the bitumen with the new wheels fitted.
