Prado 3.0 litre turbo any good?

Currently thinking about selling up the farm and spending a few years
exploring oz.

As I will be living in it, I reckon a 22ft or so van will do the trick -
and when needed I can just park it somewhere and explore the more rugged
areas camping.

I had a look at a Prado 3.0l turbo, and they seem nice - the Grande
model has lots of goodies, but I wonder how it would go towing.

I dont need to go fast, and I will not be doing any hard off-road stuff
- eg climbing millions of sand hills and digging myself out of boggs is
not my idea of fun

The only things I didn;t like about the Grande were the sun roof, the
price, and the rear doors (cant open them fully with a van attached!!!)

Would appreciate ideas, opinions, and advice from any one with
experience with the Prado.

Also looking for ideas for (low cost) phone and internet access while
touring

cheers

David

The 3ltr Prado has similar power/torque figures to the 1Hz diesel in the
landcruiser and they definitely have no problem towing a van that size

and they weight over 2 tonnes so should handle a van that size quite ok
although I would be upgrading the rear suspension and fitting those poly
airbags in there as well

Yep, forgot to mention the new sus. I just did its first re rego today for
him (Qld) cause he's in WA but bought it here. His van has its own loo and
shower, solar etc with all the knobs and dials. The other night the power
went off and he could use everything except the air con and TV. Not sure why
not the TV..

Thanks guys for the replies - and another query.

Anyone had any experience with the 'toyota' sat nav system that comes with the
Grande?  Seems expensive if fitted as an extra to other Prado models - $5000 or
so the dealer said.

David, they look good in the console, don't they ? But are they of any value
in say the Simpson ?
There are cheaper if less elegant solutions eg laptop or display screen and
gps .

Cheers
Jim
