Been a while since there has been a post here. When I first joined this
group it was pretty active. Have you all bought Xtrails or something??? LOL
Freind of ours just bought an Xtrail, tried to get up a good hill up Mt
Carbine way and almost rolled it. We advised him not to buy an Xtoy, now he
is really disappointed that his "4wd" seems to be a car with a little extra
(that is what the X stands for)
We sure got a good blow here - trees down , power still out in a lot of
areas, plenty of mud out bush. This weekend I am venturing out
Petford/Emuford way to check out the water situation while hubby works on
power restoration around here. Hopefully by then you will all be posting
again and I can let you know what the mud is like out west!
Kathy.

Was that the track up Mt Spurgeon?  (FTM, is there still a track up Mt
Spurgeon?)

Hi Phred
It was indeed the Mt Spurgeon road which although 4wd is a good track. There
is just one tricky spot which if you have a Hilux (yeap we have one) you are
going to make it. You cant get to Mt Spurgeon because there is a locked gate
on the northern side of the McLeod  but you can get as far as the McLeod
River which has the most amazing set of falls/gorge on it. Have you been up
there? If you get to the river you can walk up the ridge behind you and get
to a magnificent lookout of the falls, but if you dont like to climb you can
walk downstream for about a km to see them and have a really really really
cold swim! LOL.
If you walk upstream and cross, you can make your way up to the Spurgeon
Falls but this is really for the experienced bushwalker as there are some
tricky spots. ie, map and compass skills and a day walk.

Thanks for the response, Kathy.

I went up to the old mine workings at the top of Spurgeon a couple of
times about 30 years ago.  We never stopped for more than a few
minutes (comfort stop :) at the McLeod, but it was certainly a great
spot.  I wasn't aware of the falls and gorge.  Might have to
look into that further. Bugger about the gate though.  Seems the whole
bloody country is in the grip of control freaks now. :-(

I do recall one rather tricky very rocky and very sharp corner on the
way -- but I can't remember if that was above or below the McLeod
crossing (I wasn't driving the truck :).  [Reminds me, three of us
were sitting in the tray on the way up and back -- can't do that
either these days.  Well, not legally...]

Cheers, Phred.

I hear the table lands copped a fair bit of damage. All were hearing about
is Innisfail here.

Only 30 knot wind gusts and some rain for us in Townsville. No damage at
all.

Me? No I've still got the Patrol, not an Xtrail! I'm just busy all th time.
Permanant night shift, part time uni, fighting my ex wife for access to my
kids......and I used to post here because I was bored. Hell, I barely have
time for a 4x!

My wife and I are plotting a week end away (alone!) up to Einasliegh in
April. Probably the 20th - 23rd. It should be nice with a bit of water about
after the rains.

Good luck finding "alone" on the Einsleigh Barnsey. Trouble this Easter is
that the school hols fall the week before and not the week after! So that
the time us hard working folk pack up and race off either Thursday or
Friday, all the best spots will be taken by families taking holidays! Just
as well I know a spot :-............
We experienced winds of 220kms an hour here in Tolga - long way from your
30knotters LOL.
Yard still looks like a bomb went off, hubby is working 12 - 14 hr days
restoring power so our place is still a cyclone mess cos one thing I cant do
is use a chain saw (scared witless of the things).
Tomorrow I will give the saw another go - might have to go a 4x or so before
hand tho!
Kathy.

Sorry to hear that about the Tablelands, Kathy. I suppose it will bounce
back. All the media focus is on Innisfail. I don't think people realise that
the damage was more wide spread than just the coast.

My wifes Uncle is an electrician. He moved from Townsville back to Innisfail
in June last year and started building himself a house and to retire. The
house survived, but he's mighty pissed off with the amount of work he's
doing.

Are you going to the Einsleigh races this year?  I MUST get there. I keep
planning it, but it never happens. Knowing the locals and bushies up there
that I do, I'm sure it would be superb. No one would notice that I'm an
alcoholic either.

No not going to Einsleigh - heading out towards Petford to hide in the hills
LOL
We too always say we must get to Einsleigh, but alas we are locals and we
would have to behave out there.
Sorry to hear uncle is mighty upset - I am married to an Ergon worker, so he
is very upset! but he will survive where a lot of people will take a long
time to get back to normal.
See ya Barnsey
Kathy.

I suppose Einsleigh is a bit like the beach for me, never go. One time I
realized that I hadnt been on Surfers beach for 20 years, so I went for a
walk there. Middle of winter.
And lying topless on the sand was a very blue Asian girl. I believe I could
hear her thinking, "I've paid for this ^&**()$ holiday and I WILL enjoy it
!"
I haven't been back.

Cheers
Jim
