That's great, Bob- but this is Australia.
What's a Montero?
What are the standard bars made of?
Ditto the garvin roof rack (I thought they made GPS?)
How many miles of corrugations in that 5,000?

Sorry.................that's Pajero to you.
Garmin makes GPS...Garvin makes roof racks and bull bars etc
http://www.garvin-industries.com/
The OEM roof bars are made of metal, what I don't know. They are fairly
heavy and I was quite surprised at how strong they are after I clamped the
rack to them and started appying weights and pressure. There's absolutely no
give and no apparent stress to the roof body panel. I can send you some
detailed photos if you'd like.
The back roads that I travel are unmaintained county roads and old mine
roads and trails. It's the US SW desert and it's very unforgiving. The roads
are very rough and there are the inevitable rock outcroppings and dry wash
beds to cross. The trails are basically depressions in the ground and quite
often follow dry wash beds or are just directions across a tract of ground
with a GPS receiver where the road has been washed out or unused and grown
over. Corrugations are mainly along the smooth sections and the other roads
tend to erode and leave exposed jagged rocks. They only get gravelled and
graded every few years unless they connect government services and then they
are just washboard or corrugations. I like to travel in the Arizona Strip
which was a piece of land cut off from the rest of the state when they
flooded Lake Mead in the 30s. The population has eventually declined and
with the exception of a few ranger stations and some die hard ranchers and
polygamists there are less than 1,000 inhabitants and there are no services
in the entire 12,000 square mile region.
I have some desert travel photos on my web site and they give a good
impression of the desert terrain around here. www.walker-entertainment.com
Go to the Arizona or Utah pages and open the slide show. There are several
slideshows devoted to desert travel and I've tried to name them
appropriately for the main area or activity. I've never been to Australia
but with exception of the vegetation and animals they are probably similar.
