I wonder how many people are thinking, "install a Hiclone".

Stay off the gas pedal is where you will save your fuel, all else is usually
a *waste of money, did I mention the Hiclone already? (*see: Waste of money)

Ensure tyres are at full pressure, no extra weight being carried around,
drive sensibly (I know, I know, who does that in a 4x4 but you asked the
question dude.)

Buy a scooter to get to work in so your $200 weekend fuel spend doesnt seem
quite so much anymore. ;o)

Nah wont be going hiclone maybe a better filter system and open up the
atrbox a bit will do the trick - averaging 23 mpg at the moment though which
aint that bad.

3 Fitch and 3 Hyclones would be  better.

Yeah you pretty much have to wear that fuel problem.  ;-)

Swap the recovery eyelets on the front and back for some decent hooks too.
I dug my Jeep into a hole and then tested a snatch on it and it bent the
eyelet straight away.  Get a proper hook for it.

Is that the metal loops of steel rod on the front of the bumper connected
with two anti tamper bolts fark where do I get the sockets for these things
they are all over the vehicle.

Yeah I didn't even look as it only cost me $15 to get the hooks fitted - the
shop had the right tool.

what are the bolt heads like?
are they a multi corner star thing
then a normal double hex socket is all you need

Nothing wrong with a Ducati

also get some larger tyres and a suspension lift(you may need this to
fit bigger tyres)
having the engine run at 2000rpm on the hyway will help a bit

That went years ago had a Honda Black Widow 750 then a VN1500 Kwaka and now
have had the ST2 for 2 years and still very happy with it.
Its a lot lighter and easier to handle then the ST1100 but gee that thing
could hoot too :)>

They'd be kidding themselves anyway ;-)  Wranglers don't suit many people,
but the people who do have them, love them.  I've never met or seen a Jeep
owner sell their Wrangler in disgust and say, "That was rubbish off-road."
A lot like Defender owners!

I have had it only a couple of days and have fallen in love with it. It has
some quirks - the indicators/windscreen wiper controls are oposite to any I
have driven so I continue to have a clean windscreen lol. It has heaps of
grunt and the tracks I have put it over so far have not been a problem even
with the Wrangler GS-a Tyres on it. About to make a false floor for the rear
cargo area as the rear seat came out on the first day of owning it - sh.t
two circlips and out it came.

Yes I had that same problem!!  Look like a real tool with the wipers on, on
a hot day and no indicator!!  The Wrangler GS tyres weren't bad, but I never
put them through wet mud.  Did plenty of wet and dry sand and some dry/rocky
stuff.  Yeah the backseats don't get much use anyway... there's enough room
for a good length camping trip when you pull the back seats out.

Low-range engagement also requires a bit of a yank :-)

Put a turbo diesel under the bonnet
and run it on biodiesel

I think the 2007 model is planned to have a turbo diesel for export markets.
A td is really what the Jeep has needed all along... the current 4L 6cyl is
a real hog on the petrol, and given the weight of the car, it really
shouldn't be using that much juice.

I guess being an American built vehicle
the Diesel option wasn't really something they looked into until now

even the Japs didn't sell many diesels in the US until recently

On my last trip my fuel economy was at least 10% better than previous trips
and 15% better than the figure at
http://www.greenhouse.gov.au/fuelguide/index.html .

I don't really know for sure why it was so good but the two things I had
control over were:
- driving just under 100 km/hr instead of (cough mumble), and
- keeping tyre pressures several psi over the recommended figures.
Speed doesn't make such a big difference in our other car, but the 4WD isn't
exactly aerodynamic.

Other possible factors were
- cool weather making the fuel denser
- maybe the engine was still loosening up, even after 160,000 km
- there was a hole in the front of the muffler which might have let the
exhaust flow more freely.

Hope it wasn't the muffler. I've had that replaced.

Must admit have not checked the tyre pressures yet will do that today, but
it still a good car as far as I can see.
Off to Jamieson via Woods Point this weekend so will let all know how it
went in the dirt stuff.

This would be the biggest contributing factor
there is a formular that goes something like for every 20kph over 90 you
need 100% more power to push it, this is for trucks so you could scale
it down a bit

of course doing 80 will achive greater economy and really piss off the
following traffic
