I am researching having my 2004 Mazda Tribute converted to LPG.

Does anyone know any details of this, such as:
- Tank options: Location, type, capacity
- Dual vs Straight LPG pros/cons
- Under-bonnet options: mixers etc
- Estimated cost
- Expected consumption (combined city/country)

I welcome all replies from anyone with knowledge or experience in this.

Thanks in advance

$80pw in petrol ~= $4k/year
Gas conversion ~$2k
Savings/yr = ~$2k
Conversion pays for itself after just 1 year.
Are these reasonable figures?

is that all ?
mere tupence try $120-150 pw diesel
$16,000 over 2 years unclaimable ie- non tax returnable
and yes lpg is viable with those sums

I've heard that the federal Govt has seen a rise in the sales of LPG and
tehre is talk of them cashing in on this trand by applying the fuel
excise to it the same as petrol, which would almost double the price of LPG

this of course would discourage ppl from converting to LPG and staying
with the higher taxed petrol/diesel

I had a vehicle converted over to LPG back in the early 90's and I was very
hesitant doing so.
However once I did it, I was very happy with my decision.
I went from paying 60cpl for petrol to 19cpl for gas.

There was big concern even back then, that the government would get greedy
and add the excise tax onto the gas, but they never did.
I think they are stuck between a rock and a hard place about it. On one side
they are trying to encourage people to use gas for environmental reasons as
well as the fact the gas is produced 100% in Australia. BUT On the other
hand the more cars that do switch to gas = less fuel tax collected from
Petrol.

I am seriously considering having the Prado converted over to LPG but again
I find my fear of spending $3,000 for the conversion and then having the
government announce they are going to tax the gas.

I guess if they do make a move on it one day, and I am sure they will, then
they may have an offset tax so as to make themselves still look like they
are doing the right thing for the environment.
Kind of like an election promise and campaign. They go around hugging babies
with one arm while the other arm slips around and shoves a knife into the
parents back!
