does anyone know if toyota is planning to put airbags in 79 series utes?

My company is about to off-load its cruisers for probably hilux's
because we HAVE to have airbags. I would much rather keep my cruiser. I
don't pay for the fuel and it covers 2500km a week over some of the
roughest roads in the west. The hilux I borrowed for a few months
earlier in the year was too bouncy couldn't cope with the rocky creek
crossings.

Don't know about Toyota utes getting airbags but I read in Fridays paper
that Nissan are fitting dual airbags to Patrol utes due to customer demand.
Don't be surprised if Toyota catches up and fits them soon.

hmm ... a patrol. Last one of those I drove was back in 93. The only
problem I can think of is it may have a wider track, well they look like
it. My vehicle is fitted with hyrail gear for standard gauge rail.
Thanks for the info.

Sounds like some 79 series utes are about to go to auction. Great machines.

Cheers

woodee - 30 Jul 2006 13:21 GMT
nah, BHP policy. All vehicles entering their minesites must be fitted
with airbags. (and high rear lights, and 4 metre mast with illuminated
tip and...and...and...)

An air bag will save you when a 100 tonne dump truck runs over the
Cruiser:-)

NAH. Your missing the point guys.

The airbag will help keep your face in tact as the rest of you gets mangled.
That way your next of kin can not sue the company because they could not
have an open casket at your funeral!

The 2007 78/79 series will have a 4.4 lt TD V8 but no air bags until the
2008 model from what I am reading. Take a read of 4x4 Australia September
issue page 10/11.
