Hello Group

Perhaps someone can advise me on where to install a GME  Electrophone
3800 CB transceiver into a 2006 Prado GXlL Auto Deisel.
From the look of it there is nowhere obvious  to install "in dash" so
maybe someone here has installed one in the same car or can advise.
Your help would be appreciated.

TIA

Hounddog.

Get a remote kit and mount the radio anywhere up out of the way and
mount the head unit with some velcro anywhere you like
the roof console(if it has one) is a good place

BTW if you have a spare DIN slot in the dash you can also get DIN
adapter plates to fit these radios as well

Mine is a nice smal unit that is the same size as the ash tray, removed the
tray and metal work and it sat in there beautifully. Only had to cut out a
small bit of plastic that was covered back once ashtray reinstalled.

I don't know about your car but the 100 series is in the same boat, nowhere
to mount a radio. I built a roof console, it cost me $12 for switches, $30
for craftwood, $40 for 2x map lights from a wreckers (out of two AU's) one
in front and one for the rear seat,  $100 to have an upholster finish it
off. It not only holds the radio and remote head it also has a bank of 6
switches for lights etc plus storage, and the whole thing looks like it is
OME. I built my own because I didn't like the look of the plastic ones on
the market, mine is padded and covered in a material that looks like the
rest of the car.

Just an option think about. I know I am pleased when people ask where I got
it made.

I don't suppose you would consider posting photos?

I'm thinking of building my own drawers/console and am looking for
ideas.

YES. Great idea. I want to build storage drawers for the rear of the Prado
and am also looking for idea's.

As for covering it. I agree. I think that would have been the easy part. I
plan to cover mine in carpet though.

Best regards

I built the roof console in my 4Runner
had two large CBs(old AX144 sibeband and a UH001) and two storage pockets
covered in a grey cloth that matched the roof material(did the covering
myself)

You made all that and then paid someone $100 to cover it!!! Sheeesh, you
couldve done that for $20 yourself. Was it stitched leather?
Rocatanski - 02 Aug 2006 14:05 GMT

My radios are under the passenger seat with the remote heads on and in
the dash
the HF radio head is in the slot under the radio and the UHF/VHF radio
head is velcroed to the ashtray lid(it's very small)

I will one day get a GXL console and mount the UHF/VHF head unit up there

Just case, I presume you know you can buy a kit to convert the 3800 to a remote
head unit - $49

I have mine mounted next to the centre console down near the floor.

Just within reach.

If you had of purchased an Icom Pro400 you could have mounted it in dash in
one of the spare din bays.

I couldn't do that with mine as they are taken up with the DVD player and
screen.

Best regards
