I am thinking of buying my first Four Wheel Drive and am interested in this
vehicle. Motor is a 3.1 Litre Diesel. Would this be sufficient to tow a
small  caravan. How would it stack up against my V6 Magna for towing power
and Fuel Economy, thanks again for any help.

Is this not a Japanese version of the Frontera with a turbo diesel from
the Jackaroo/Rodeo

it will tow a small van but because of it's short wheelbase the handling
might not be that great but the engine will have plenty enough power for
towing

Yep, the 3.1 Turbo Deisel has plenty of poke for a small 4x4 thats for sure.
f.ck all room for anyone in the back and if you intend on taking two kids
and luggage, think about a different vehicle now.

Always dangerous I know, and I am aware that only last week I started a
thread dedicated to the nonsense told about Toyota Surfs, but I was
under the impression that there were some not insignificant difference
in chassis between the two.

Do you actually know for sure thats the difference is the decals? I
actually have a reason to ask int hat the son of a mate is wanting a
4WD and is sniffing around a 2L-TE Surf that was parked by its
frustrated owner 2 years ago.

It's cheap, but there are going MUs up here available at about the same
price and on paper the MU would appear to have a lot going for it.

I took this MU for a test drive yesterday(with the owner in the passenger
seat).Never having driven a Diesel before I was put of by the Rattly Engine
which made the whole vehicle shake and Rattle at idle. The last time I felt
anything like this was in the Cab of a 2000hp Diesel Locomotive. The biggest
disappointment was the Clutch Pedal which was extremely hard to push in
(Mechanical I think}and the breaks were just as bad.Pickup through the 5
gears seemed very sluggish and for a small Ute it was very heavy on the road
, which I felt through the steering. Maybe I have become spoilt in my Old
age, driving Automatics with Power Everything. Going back to my Caravan
Fridge problem the 900watt converter was a waist of money due to
overheating. I will be paying an Auto Electrician $60 to Hard Wire the
Fridge from my car battery. Many thanks to all those who bothered to reply.

Go for the Surf, or a 4Runner.

The MU has much more power than the Surf (Unless you go with a 3.0 Turbo
Surf). The Surf is a better vehicle for all round performance/usability
though.  MUs are not well known here as arent the Fronteras.  Most mechanics
would know a Surf very well compared to a MU or Frontera.
