back page article:
NO HEAD FOR HEIGHTS
Four-wheel-drive owners are the target of so many nasty insults.
Self-centred environmental vandals, the jealous nay-sayers call them, among
other things not fit for publication.
Anyone who cared to see past such thoughtless barbs would know otherwise.
One 4WD owner, the North Sydney councillor Sarah Burke, was motivated, we
are sure, by nothing but selfless concern for the built environment when she
drew attention to the height of the car park entrance at the recently opened
Woolworths on Rangers Road in Neutral Bay.
Her husband had "scraped the living daylights" off the top of the family's
4WD when attempting to drive through it, The Mosman Daily quoted her as
telling the council.
"Then he couldn't get out again," Cr Burke said. "We are in 4WD heaven [and]
this is a massive cost-cutting exercise."
Cr Burke's colleague Trent Zimmerman pointed out that because the car park
was built some time ago it did not meet the minimum height threshold of 2.2
metres.
"This is inconvenient for those with 4WDs. Shoppers are forced to lug their
shopping to wherever they have been able to find a park on a neighbouring
street," Cr Zimmerman said. It's time 4WD owners got a fair go.

If you don't like a low clearance underground car park its easy to piss
off the owner, just drive through with an antenna high enough to hit a
sprinkler, set of a whole lot of the things then piss off quick:-)
This happened occasionally when I was a courier in the late 80's,
sometimes it was even accidental:-)

Don't all underground car parks have a car wash now?

Reminds me of an issue a building in Wellington NZ had when they had a water
pipe burst (Wellington City is almost on the high tide mark!) and the
underground carpark (Which was below water line) sump pump clapped out what
they say was about Friday night. On Monday the cleaners went to drive into
the lower carpark and where met with a very high tide indeed. The bottom
two carparks where completely under water and so were all the cars parked in
there. It took days to pump it all out and all the bank exec cheufured cars
were drowned as were come personal cars.
They only way they could get things done and the pump running was to get
commercial divers in there. What a story to tell after wards eh, "I swam in
this car park!"

Ahh get stuffed. It was built some years ago, it's got 2.2m height
restriction. Do what everyone else does, know their vehicle height and park
accordingly. If you don't fit, vote with your feet and shop somewhere else,
or .. heaven forbit ... walk that extra 50m with the trolley to get to your
car.
Lazy gits.

I took the Missus into the Brisbane Private Hospital last week
the underground car park had a height of 2.2 metres
No worries, the cruiser will fit with a bit of dragging from the roof
mounted antenna
get inside and the parking attendent says to go to level 2
no problems, as I entered the level 2 ramp I am met with a 2.04M limit sign
ok we'll give a it a go
I figure my vehicle is about 1.95 metres as the roof antenna was bent
right at the mount which is about 7cm above the roof
I don't think I'll even attempt Caboolture Park Shopping Centre's car park
the sign says 1.95M at the entrence

The Broadway Shopping Centre in Sydney has a sign that says 1.95m. Our
Disco is 1.98m and we haven't had a problem. Now I'm concerned about other
levels inside!

UHF arial on the way in or out anyway.

I went in a shooping centre at the Gap in my soft top Ex Army Landdog, with
roof off, I hit the bar going , but had cars behind so kept going anyway,
just before I turned into a parking spot I put my hand up and checked the
distance between my roof rack and the concrete cross beam, I could only get
my pinky inbetween them :)
