Well we are all packed up here and now find we have no where to go LOL
We were off to Cape Melville - today the verdict came in from the rangers
that attempted to get there. Sorry, river crossings are up over the bonnet
and you have to winch your way across the salt pans! Also the swamps are
still way up causing lots of mud. They got there but only just.
So lets go to Bathurst Heads! Sorry, you have miles of deep mud, lots of
bogs, whinching, etc etc!
Sheesh lets go to Kowanyama! LOL.... nah you cant even take a beer in there.
We wont go to Weipa - tourist city of the north.
Lets try North of Hopevale - there are 3 vehicles going, now for a week that
is almost $200 / vehicle. ie $600 for 3 vehicles to camp on aboriginal land.
No facilities whatsoever. I dont mind paying a couple of hundred dollars for
a week but would be nice if you could have a drop dummy at least for your
money. Oh and you are allowed a carton of light beer / car which is ok if
you are only going for a few days but for 9 days?
Oh well, there is always Lakefield for $4 a night - sounds good to me. Some
sites remain closed due to the huge wet, but most is open.

Surprised CY is still so soggy...even my mailman and his drunken rellies got
home safely :))

CY to the top is ok - even if it werent with up to 350 people tackling it
each day through the dry season you sure have a lot of helpers if you get
stuck! I was really talking about the CM area, east coast. Sorry.
Kathy.

Strange seasons eh?

Apparently SE Aust is dry as a cuns nunt.

I watered my garden for the first time yesterday.

(I'm in Townsville for those that don't know)

I came through WA, SA and NSW a couple of weeks ago. The country was looking
better than I've ever seen it before. They'd obviously had a bit of rain.
Brisbane is crying out for water, but the Gold Coasts dam is full.
Wierd.

The Gold Coast's dam is full because it's quite small.  On the othr hand
Wivenhoe Dam, which supplies Brisbane, is larger (in capacity) than
Sydney Harbour.
Figjam (AKA Biggus Dickus) - 23 Aug 2006 04:25 GMT
and wivenhoe is about as empty as a sh.t carters hat

They were both empty until a few months ago.  Then there was a few days
rain in the Gold Coast hinterland.  That was enough to top up the Hinze Dam.

According to their websites, Hinze holds 161070 megalitres and Wivenhoe
holds 1.16 million megalitres.  Wivenhoe is currently at 26.65% of
capacity which is just under 31000000 megalitres.

That's why I think the whole percentage thing is misleading.  I think
they should tell people in a particular region, how many days, weeks or
months supply remains
Figjam (AKA Biggus Dickus) - 23 Aug 2006 05:34 GMT
i think thats 2 too many zero's

You know, I counted the zeros twice before I sent that message and I was
sure I was right

4times a big infact.  And the Hindz dam (that supplies the GC) is full cause
the friggen Brisbane city council sold the GCCC a sh&t load of water a few
months ago unknown to lots of Brizvagas dwellers. THATS why they have a full
dam.

Wasn't a few months ago. More like 2 years or more. We've had at least 3
decent downpours (flooded my garage and washed drive away) in the last 2
years.  THATS why we've got water. And we conserve water by washing in the
surf :))
In 20 years we've had water restrictions for 16. Now they want restrictions
cause the rest of Qld is dry. You buggars have been washing your cars while
mine had to remain filthy. that's why you've got no water.

Yes, and I was being silly  :))  I guess that the track out to Portland
Roads is probably a bit soggy ? Not surprised that the south eastern bit is
still wet.
Barnsey - 23 Aug 2006 01:50 GMT
A bit off topic, but I might be working up there (fly in fly out) soon.

Fingers crossed...................I HATE Qld Health!!

Hiya Barnsey *waves* LTNS
Hubby was staying at Lockhardt couple of weeks ago. Good sloppy drive over
to Portland Roads and Chilli Beach. People are getting into that country.
Remember to lock your door at night!!! hahah.
Looks like we are heading up Starcke way for a few days, pity it is a green
zone so no fishing at all. From there we will scoot across to Lakefield and
hopefully get onto some fish.
Enjoy Lockhardt!
Kathy.
Barnsey - 23 Aug 2006 02:30 GMT
BZZZZT!

Wrong.

I'll be working in the gulf, not the cape.

(Just got a phone call from the agency)

Lawn Hill is near by though, and I might be going to Kurrumba when required.

8 on 6 off.  Either way, it's all good.

Fingers VERY crossed!
just us - 23 Aug 2006 07:44 GMT
Getting pretty hot out there now - take a good hat LOL
Do you get home for your 6 off? If you dont, take your fishing gear. This
time of the year the fish are really starting to go back on the bite. Lucky
bugger! (unless of course you are stuck in Doomagee - locals call it
Beirut ) If stuck in Doomagee they say you sleep in a compound, and lock up
tight at night. Have a great time out there!
Kathy.

Century mine actually.............as a cleaner!! Yeah fly home for 6 days,
although I can fly to where ever, if I want. Maybe Mrs B and the kids can
meet me up there for my days off. Sounds nice, eh?

I did a week in Doom City in 97 when I was working at Mt Isa Base Hospital.
It was an eye opener, shall we say.

Never been so pleased to get on a plane at the end of it.

I'll find out in the next few days about the mine job.

Fingers crossed. I really don't want to do what I'm doing anymore. .
