Well our Hilux is a 1999 3lt diesal, our pride and joy with only 130000kms
on the clock, well looked after, most concievalbe extras. Son started saying
he wanted to buy it off us, offered us $18000 and we laughed. Much better to
keep such a terrific vehicle than sell it and start looking all over again.
GUESS WHAT? He comes home last week in his "new car" It is a 1999 Hilux 3lt
diesal with only 70000 on the clock. EVERY extra! stripes up the sides,
winch, radios, CD player, you name it the little sh.ts car has got it! LOL.
Hubby is green with envy - although ours is in top condition this one is
showroom stuff. Previous one owner worked in PNG so each week he would drive
it 150kms to Cairns, garage it overnight, a guy coming down from PNG would
drive it 150kms home, and garage it for a week then drive it down and swap
keys with the owner. The blardy car has done all these 100kms runs for its
entire life - a bargain at $17000.We know the owner so we know the car and
know that it has been treated like a baby. Little sh.t got lucky.

As the new Safety Officer at Kagarra, I'll ask the road train drivers very
nicely to watch out for it, and not run it off the road.

I'll be in Mt Garnett doing my induction stuff in Feb. Is that far away from
you?

We are in Tolga - not that far.
Congrats on Kagarra Zinc - hell of a lot of locals work up there. Next April
I am doing a 1400km push bike ride from Moura up past those damn trucks - so
tell em to look out for me then! LOL
We are thinking of doing a 4 day circuit over Xmas if the wet holds off.
Have you been through Mt Fox? We thought we would go down through
Gunnawarra, Minnamooka, (as far as I have been before on that road) then
through Valley of Laggoons and across to Fox  - home via Ingham.  Take the
camper, and generally do some fishing and just relax.
Have a great Christmas Barnsey - good to hear you are going to Mt Garnet -
tis not a bad place. I used to go out there and take the guys lead levels
every few months, but these days they do it onsite. Shucks, I loved going
out there to get away from the usual fare.
The trucks have a very good reputation of although being big and lots of
them on the road they are always courteous.

I thought this was a 4X4 newsgroup not a 2X1 :-)

Yes, quite a few times. The road is quite remote though if you're coming in
from the west. Pretty rough last time I travelled it, but nothing a 4wd cant
handle. You just need to take it slow. 100Ks can take a few hours. The
volcano, although quite a long walk, is pretty amazing.

I've never been to the Valley of the Lagoons. A bloke at work goes there
often, (in a 2wd ) and loves it.

Sounds great.

I'll be at Surveyor mostly. Mt Garnet for the induction etc.

I haven't been on that road since about 2000, but at that time I think
it would have been quite passable in a Holden ute for example.  (We
were in a LC wagon I admit, but I don't recall any serious hazards.)

I'm curious about that "quite a long walk" of yours, Barnsey.  IIRC,
we basically drove to the bottom of the cone and it was then just a
matter of walking up it.  (But maybe that "up it" bit is what you were
referring to?  Definitely, *up*. :-)

Cheers, Phred.
