one thing you must do is wash your vehicle thoroughly as soon as you get
home, all that salt water dripping over your car's roof and down into
the bodywork is not good and you may find rust soon appears

Whew, that is a complication I hadn't forseen.  The 4Runner got washed
twice in the 14 yrs I've had it (not by me though) , so I am quite out of
practice in that area.

Any suggestions how to avoid that washing thing?

David - who doesn't believe in washing cars (or dogs, unless they roll in
sh.t and then want to sleep on his bed)

The only way to prevent regualr washing it a decent layer of polish on the
entire vehicel, then you can avoid wahing for months. But when you do wash
then you will have to repolish about each 4-6 months to keep the paints
shine up.

Even that won't stop the rust down in the gutter and between body panels
mate had an L300 mitsi van that the roof almost rusted off after a
couple of years of using a folding alloy car topper

Well Kev, all I can say is that your useing the wrong products. If you use a
wash/wax then as the water drips down and puts a small coating wherever the
water travels.

Even then, you probably do not want to wash the dog too often. It might
turn out it likes the water and just goes around rolling in shite to get
 a play in water {:-).
