We have just come back from Fraser and while we were there we visited the
shop at Orchid Beach.  We found some info about a proposal to close the
beach road from Hook Point which would force people coming by barge to use
the inland road to the 18km mark in the first stage and later to 25km.

We arrived at high tide (bad planning!) and were forced to use that road.  I
will never complain about Sydney roads again!

The Friends of Fraser group is asking people to contact the producers at
Channel 7 Sunrise program during the week commencing 22 Jan:
email: sunrise@seven.com.au
fax: 02 8777 7777 (lots of 7s!)
mail: Sunrise Channel 7, PO Box 777, Pyrmont, NSW 2009

The southern tip of the Island doesn't have much beach left, at high
tide vehicles are having to drive long the dune area. some getting stuck

why they want to close it for low tide travel is a bit strange though

From what I understand it's to protect the bird life. I drove around Hook
Point yesterday and am really dreading the day when they close it to vehicle
access.

Don't be surprised if they end up closing north of Ngkala up to the light
house off too at some point.
