Folks,
The recent attempt at having the foot ripped off has made me wonder if anyone
knows of a cruise control that could be fitted to a 79 TD Landcruiser ute?
I returned from Townsville with a mate in a 100 series manual wagon (poverty
pack) which had a cruise control fitted by Toyota.
Given my model Landcruiser has an electronic throttle control, I would've
thought it'd be reasonably easy to fit a cruise control. I vaguely recall
seeing a large connector inside the steering column shroud that might have been
the connector for it.
Somone mentioned to me that a manual vehicle also needs a switch fitted to the
clutch to disengage the cruise as well as the system for the brake. Is this
right?
Anyone got any ideas on aftermarket suppliers and feasability of doing this?
I wouldnt worry about it if it wasnt the accelerator foot that is buggered, and
long trips are going to become quite painfull for a long while.

I was going to say fitting CC is easy till you mentioned electronic
throttle, I've fitted 4 aftermarket CC's but none with electronic throttle.
A clutch switch is a good idea but its not absolutely necessary, as long
as the driver doesn't forget to disengage the CC before dropping out of
gear there won't be a problem.
I suggest you seek advise from a specialist CC fitter, I can't see why
it couldn't be done.

Not cheap but..

I drove 5 speed VN commodore for 15 years with an $80 Kmart CC without a
clutch switch and never had a problem. If you are changing gears, you aren't
cruising so it's usually not on.
I mean you can do stupid things where a clutch switch will stop you from
having issues, but you can do stupid things to a car without a cruise
control regardless, if you aren't careful.

The clutch switch is a cinch to fit anyway
just a small bracket above the clutch pedal(similat to the location of
the brake light switch) and when you touch the clutch it closes the
switch and drops the CC off
nothing hard about it
any competent Auto Elecy will have a unit to suit
