Mate of mine wants to fit 35 inch rubber to his surf, it has standard steel wheels, does he have to change the wheels as he is fitting 35x12.5x15 rubber????

Wheels will have to be at least 8 Inchs wide for 12.5s and unless he wants massive amounts of tyre rubbing then a lft kit will be required.
Stock wheels are 15x6.5JJ's Minimum will be 8x15JJs.3
Only wheels he can keep there is steering and fly!

Thanks for the replies so far, it looks like it is not a wise thing to do so far.

Just for the record 33s rub without a body lift.

Yes seriously unless he does some major engine improvements his performance will suffer badly onroad and off.

32s are the biggest you can go with out mods to a Surf/4runner.

Usually 31/10.5-15s are the norm and perfectly legal.

Simple
all he has to do is convert it to solid front axle, this will give it
the 4 inches of lift it needs in the front

and if he has the standard alloys, they might fit if the wheels are 15x8
