Info for your Members benifit

At the end of the main street in Gunning, just before the bridge (on the left)
, there is a shady FREE camping and picnic area with toilets, water and BBQs,
etc.
It is a beautiful area beside the very pretty, and well maintained and very
clean creek, and it is 100% FREE
( vans, vehicles, tents and campers etc allowed)
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Also, for those contemplating  using  the Gunning NSW Caravan Park.

Recently we did a caravan trip inland along the East Coast of NSW and we
stopped at the Gunning Caravan Park.!
It was definitely a big mistake.!
High rates for overnight stays from $17
Filthy and very primitive showers and toilets with very little hot water (the
showers do not have doors on them !)
Lots of un-accompanied stray dogs running around  "dropping" their business
everywhere and "cocking" their legs over campers car wheels and equipment etc.

Long grass (prickles) and untidy grounds.
We were told by a very ignorant and rude caretaker (we could smell "booze" on
his breath) that the toilets and showers are only cleaned twice a week and
that we either "like it or leave it" !
We also found that the "locals" in Gunning were also not very helpful or
friendly !

We hope this info will be helpful to your members

There's likely nothing wrong with Gunning.  Nothing other than it's a small
town in the middle of nowhere, if that's going to be a problem for you.

Someone posting by the name of "Fred & Rita Walker", and/or
"HappyAussieWanderer" has been spaming usenet and various online forums with
the EXACT same script about the camping outlet being substandard, and the
Heaven-On-Earth park just up the road being so wonderful.

As I understand it, public parks, grassed verges etc within cities/towns are
not allowed to be camped on.  The original reason I'm guessing so you that you
can take your kids to the park to play on the swings, kick a ball around and
have a BBQ without having to co-exist with the likes of HappyAussieWanderer
trailer trash.

 And that's a good thing.

Agreed John.  In anycase you can't please everyone all of the time, to state
the obvious.

I have stayed at the Gunning Caravan park. It was ok when I stayed there tho
I think it was only $10.. Nice and quiet. Not flash but what do you expect
for the LOW rate of $17 per night. Anyone who thinks $17 is a high rate
hasn't stayed in many Caravan parks. As for the picnic area at the end of
the town, I wouldn't stay there , but if you are keen on staying in rest
areas then it would be ok. No showers of course, and any hoons around town
would be right on your doorstep. I have stayed at the Gunning caravan park
in preference to Yass .
I found the townspeople ok.
