Howdy People,

It's coming up to the time to replace the tires on my 100 GXL Diesel wagon.
I have Scorpion ST 275/70R16 on it at the moment but have just moved to
Darwin from Perth and will be doing a little more off-road work now so want
something with a more aggresive tread pattern but not as aggressive as the
BF Mud Terrains or Cooper STT.  What I am interested in is a slightly taller
tire to give me a bit more ground clearance and the 285/75R16 will do that
but I'm not sure about the extra width and if my poor diesel will slow down
too much.  I've come down to two choices so far.  Cooper ST or BF Goodrich
AT in either 285/75R16 or 265/75R16.  My question......will the narrower 265
inhibit my off-road work more than the fatter 285 slow my down and increase
fuel consumption.

Oh I have 2" OME lift so clearance should be OK with either????

Thanks heaps.

The 265/75 will be the same height as your current tyres
the 75 is the aspect ratio, ie; 75% of the tread width
so 265/75s will be very close to your 275/70s

so you would have to look for a 265/80 to get the narrower tread but
taller tyre(if they make them)
285 tyres are only 10mm wider so I doubt the width would be too much of
a worry,
as for having less power I don't know as I don't have one

Specs from a BFG brochure for their A/Ts:
(Tyre Size - Diameter - Width)

275/70R16 - 31.3" - 11.0"
265/75R16 - 31.8" - 10.7"
275/75R16 - 32.9" - 11.3"

The width difference won't make bugger all difference to your fuel
consumption or power, but the diameter difference will.

Dunno but I do know that the Cooper ST won an award for best tyre
recently - don't know if it was this year or in recent years though.
