All depends on history of its servicing.
If its been treated well, then depends on how badly its been flogged.
too many variables.
The sort of use it has had will also play a big part in its life - taxis
can get 600,000 to 1,000,000 km from a petrol engine - my 4 Runner
diesel is just starting to use a bit more oil (a litre/10,000km) at
380,000km - nearly all country driving - most trips are 50km or so. I
change the oil and filter every 10,000km, and use that KMart oil cause
it is the only stuff I found that comes in a 6 litre container.
I would think that a well treated 80s engine should get a lot more miles
that mine though - bigger engine - lightly loaded if driven right and
serviced right.

Maybe yours might hav lasted 500k if you had changed the oil at 5000 and
used
something a little more substanial in quality.

Thanks for the suggestions. Sounds like 500k is not unreasonable to
expect if the thing's been treated right, so if I find something with
250k on the clock I should get some use out of it.
And the olive oil - in the fuel tank or in the engine? :^)
Sam.
