Lightforce 240 Blitz vs 240XGT

All,

For the past 3 and a bit years I have been the happy owner of a pair of
Lightforce 240 Blitz driving lights.  They were on the front of my
Landcruiser ute's factory bullbar, and have been great.  They have survived
numerous mustering sessions, incoming bird-shaped missiles, and the
vibration that comes with dirt road driving.  Aside from a few niggles, they
have done very well. They certainly put out a lot of light!

They dont fit properly in behind a Landcruiser factory bullbar, and when I
bolted them into the standard mounts, I had the reflectors sitting outside
in front of the bar.  I initially thought this might make them a target for
incomings, but even the roos I have hit since have missed them for some
reason.  I have been astounded with what they have suffered.

The 240 Blitz lights took a dive the other day when I was playing touch-tag
with a psychotic cow who wouldnt go through the bloody gate into better
pasture, and a contest of will ensued. A 20-minute session doing donuts in
the paddock trying to turn her in the right direction was a fun little
episode. She won the round when she got slightly ahead of me, and rubbed out
the lights as she shot across in front of the landcruiser....Bitch....

Anyway, I digress...

I bit the bullet and ordered a set of 240XGT lights to replace the venerable
Blitzes.  The still surviving Blitz is the same light as on my shooting
spotlight, so I might make up a second one of those. After 6 bloody weeks,
the XGT lights arrived(ya gotta love supporting local businesses who couldnt
give a sh.t about service...).  I had left them in the box these past 2
weeks, as there were other things to worry about.  I pulled them out this
morning to fit them, and bugger me if the bloody things dont! They are too
bulky behind the reflectors to fit into the same mount on the Landcruiser
bullbar.  Bugger!

Solution will be a couple of those clamp-on affairs you use for mounting
bullbar antennas.  The only thing is I might have to make up a bit of a
protective cage this time; they sit out a bit further into harms way. Of
course, this probably makes them a bit more dodgey if I clean up a
pedestrian, but, heck, I'd have to find one first!

Maybe a couple of spears to fend off the incoming might be a nice touch as
well...

Anyway, I thought I'd let anyone know that the mounting requirements as far
as space is concerned is different for the XGT lights, as opposed to the
Blitz units.

Cheers,

Depending on your relationship with your rego inspection guy, you might get a
knockback come rego time - regs say nothing can protrude past the bullbar I was
told, but???

I think if you read it it may state that lights are not included, sharp
or potentially dangerous protrusions

as lights are not that tough when hit by a waywood Pedestrian(or Ol
'arold running for cover) they will not inflict death causeing impacts

I did read the RACQ monthly mag that said that lights were no
problem(you see them on bumpers all the time and they always pass
roadside inspections

Kev........Fantastic sticker I saw 2 days ago, "One Bullbar In The Bush
Is Worth More Than One Pedestian In The City"
