Hi,
I was just browsing the Dakar rally site and looking at the race
leaders in the "cars" section. None of the top five are vehicles that
are often advertised as off-roaders. Neither are they 4WDs that I know
are damn good - LandCruiser, Pajero, Patrol, Defender, G-Wagen.
Am I missing something?

Have a look at the specs for these vehicles, none are stock, they are all
purpose built and resemble their production versions less than a Aussie V8
supercar resembles a production version of a ford or holden. Then check out
the T1 or lightly modified class, and you will see the usual cars listed.

Thanks. Yep, noticed that. So none of the manufacturers send their
modified versions to the Dakar? Like F1 teams?

as said, not one of them has anything in common with a road going
versions
only the manufacturer - and in some cases, they arent even the
manufacturer, but the importers from other countries.
