Greetings,
A mate of a mate is selling his '89 Nissan Patrol, GLi 4dr,
manual,  4.2D.  New suspension all 'round, new mags and tyres sometime last
year, 350,000kms.  It's got Air Con and CD player.....both of which aren't
listed on redbook as standard for that model.  He wants $8K for it.

Is that a lot of km's for a vehicle like this?  What sort of mileage is
expected from this engine/drivetrain before requiring expensive work
(assuming of course that it's been looked after correctly and all that)?
It's definitely been used as an offroader.....quite a lot from what I
gather.

When it *does* require rebuilds of either gearbox or engine, what sort of
costs are involved?

What sort of fuel consumption do these things get?

I don't really want a vehicle this big, but it's in my pricerange and it's
got the amount of space inside that I want/need.  A number of people have
asked me "Are you sure you want such a heavy/big vehicle?  They're a *big*
unit you know....."  Trying to tell me something perhaps??

Mate has a TD42 in his GQ, ripped the head off at 565,000klms, you can
still see the cross hatching in the bores from new.
Photos of it on outerlimits.

Its just run in.. Many are throwing turbos on at this klms with out
issue.
www.gqpatrol.com for a list of thigs to look out for when buyin a GQ.

$8k sounds cheap as piss... most are $12k+ for LWB Diesel.
