It was reported on the news tonight that South Sydney Council will charge up
to double for parking of 4WDs.
Surprise surprise.. their web site www.sscc.nsw.gov.au was not active
tonight either. I guess they didn't want all those abusive emails flowing
in.

Isn't it North Sydney Council that was on the news today!!

Well fair enough I reckon.

There's enough blokes still around on aus.cars.offroad  from a few years ago
on this newsgroup, who might agree that the 4wd scene isn't what it used to
be.

remember when driving a 4wd gave you some cred as a bloke?

remember when doing Big Red didn't mean some homosexual Oxford Street gay
bar cruise?

Remember when your wife ...........

remeber when HAVING a wife was in fasion?

remember when your wife wouldn't drive your 4wd because she COULDN"T!!!!!

Yeah........why not? Some yuppy fuk council in sissy-ville ups the rates on
4wds to offset the cost of the condom vending machines they provide in the
latte bars.

You know it makes sense.

Thats pretty deep Barnsey :)
Yes, I can remember when schoolkids used to look as you went past, and so
did the local cop.
I was in Birdsville before the bowser stickers "have you conquered Big Red
yet?" (and by the way there are 2 of em these days, the National Parks Big
Red and the real one around 2k north...but you'll find traffic jams on both
of them )
Having a wife was always in fashion. Not married at 30 ? Hmmm..... She
stayed home and looked after the kids. Now we do it. Its fashionable for her
to be the bread winner and to have a house hubby.
My wife rekkons she still can't drive my 4wd. Thats feminist bull. She just
doesn't want to drive it cause her car is much more comfortable to drive.
These days she has more money than I. Men have been marginalized.
Gotta run and do the vacuuming, otherwise I'll miss Opera and Dr Phil.

Cheers
Jim

Yeah, good stuff Jim. Agree with all of it. Lots of things I could talk
about. Are you on any forums/bulletin boards or the likes? Dont want to
hijack this thread too much. There's been a shortage of threads on how
opressed 4wd owners are these days.

Say, arent the charges based on motor capacity ?? meaning the V8 limos etc
will also cop it ??

Yep. Police, ambos and council vehicles excepted of course. I wonder if
scrubbys Forrester is also exempt ? :)))

The news paper reported it as being an anti pollution thing and because
4WDs use far more fuel than cars do they must pay more

and of course that stupid old (got a 4WD but wants them banned) scruby
says it's a win for everyone because these gass guzzling Behemoths have
no place in the city because they take up so much room in car parks
of course all his ramblings are now irrelevant since he bought a 4WD(why
didn't he get an Impreza or Liberty, why a Forrester??)

Now I don't know about anyone else, but I know when I park my 100 series
in a car park it only takes up one space, usually jammed between two
fuckwit cars drivers who need two spaces because they can't park
straight(maybe thats scruby's problem)

and as for fuel usage, it uses quite a bit less fuel than my 84 XE Ford
used to

so what is it about my car that gives them any right to charge me more
if I were to win $20M and decide I want to be a North Shore Toss pot

The mayor (who owns an AWD Volvo XC70 which apparently will be exempt from
the higer rates) says:
"It is only the big gas-guzzlers like the Pajero and Cherokee and
eight-cylinder vehicles that will pay the higher rate."

So does a Volvo XC70 use less fuel than a turbo diesel Paj or Jeep?  I doubt
it.
Will they differentiate between diesel models and petrol models, or will
they have a specific cut-off fuel consumption rate?  Who's fuel consumption
figures would they use?

Perhaps the definition will just be any vehicle that's higher than what the
mayor chooses to drive - because nobody should be higher than the mayor.  (I
haven't checked, but I imagine that the current models of both the Pajero
and Cherokee are probably shorter and narrower than the Volvo XC70 - or at
least be very close).

I can see a quick court case involving a Jeep Grand Cherokee owning
lawyer and the returning of extorted monies to those with 4WDs

one thing
does this also include a Hiace LWB van
a Merc 100 van or any of the maxi vans getting about
what about a 2WD F100, a toyota 2 tonne dyna?
a 1964 Caddy, or any 60s yank tank

So, they use more fuel parked with the engine off? Damn I'll leave the
Landcrab idling in first on full lock!

Exterminate!

Destroy!

You are the Dr!!!

You are the enemy of the darliks!

Nah really! What's the point of all these threads about how the forces of
evil are out to get 4 wds?

It's being going on for ages.but nothing's has changed.

I mean what have the Romans done for us?

The wine? (that's important)

Safe to walk the streets at  night?

Stan now has the right to have a baby, even though he doesn't has a uteris
for the foetus to gestate, but it symbolises the struggle we 4wd owners have
against the oppresive regime.

Well................

Despite not being a whinging Pom, I still have the RIGHT to be a whinging
pom.

Can we talk about something else?

You never know.

Maybe the aliens read this newsgroup, and if they find out that we're just a
bunch of miserable kill joys, they'll slap a "sad f.ck" tax on us too.

This stuff is being going on since I bought my BJ40 (so long ago, it might
not have been that) in 1977.

And we're all still a pack of environmental vandals who use 100 /
rainforests /10 Ks

Lets move on.

Next?

This has open a can of worms so owner of BMW and  Merc  all wheel drive are
these  exmpted ???  Hmmm.

A few young ladies must be worried about  Honda's.

Next case trade people all use uts of some description  either 4wd or 2wd
plus crew cab.   A workhorse during the week and off road at the weekend so
the list goes on.

Went the Next council election.
