auxillary battery for 100 series

The Turbo Diesel GXL 100 series already has 2 batteries installed to cope
with all of the powered accessories etc etc.

Where do I install another battery to operate the fridge, lights etc and
have the ability to isolate it from the original 2 batts.  There is a little
room on the passenger side inner guard but the battery wouldnt be very big.
Am I faced with needing to get a gel battery and install it on the inside of
the car?

Thanks for the replies.

I doubt the one battery would have any problem running the powered
stuff(upgrade to a larger main battery) and use the second for the
auxiliary and use an isolator

be a lot easier than trying to find somewhere to put another battery

a small battery would not be much good for a fridge and lights
a reasonable size fridge would drain a small battery in a couple of
hours

A workmate had just bought a 100 series dx. Went hiking and left the
parkers/lights  on...3 days later he returned. "But I thought it had two
batteries" he said.
I've flattened two batteries in my 80 series. The isolator needs voltage in
the main to work.
Cheers

Can't tell you where to put the extra battery on a GXL, but can talk
about where the one on my HiLux went.

I have a (gasp shock horror) Surf.... It aready has two batteries, I
wanted a third for running fridge ligts etc. Borrowed (but will in time
buy) from a mate two 6 volt "flat" gel batteries, they are
approximately the normal length and height of a "standard" battery, but
only half the width. Have them in their brackets bolted up on top of
the spare tyre carrier under the vehicle.

Being gel cells they are indifferent to being on their side. I've made
a temporary diode blocked plice into the charging circuit to keep them
topped up and a piece of wood with a couple of GPOs on it cable tied to
the tow bar so that I can draw power from them when we go camping over
Easter.

If this works as well as I hope, I'll buy my own pair of batteries and
think up a more elegant mount for them.

(Bit of rain up in Cairns Tony? Dry as a Nuns here. )

.....downloaded it a few days ago.

As well as they do on any Vehicle. no worries wityh them rotten grey
imports there.

Dunno... Cause I own th erotten thing, never bothered with more than
3rd party fire and theft.

> I bet you cant get spare parts.

Well, I did have to rebuild the engine last year. Some parts were a bit
(lot) more expensive than the Ozzie model, but I had the complete
rebuild kit, plus extras, 5 days after ordering it.

And not one bit was OEM toyota......

Do they talk to cars and say silly things calculated to annoy others?

Bloody Oath. My home made rain guage reckoned 6 inches since lunch time
Friday as at Lunch time today....

Only time I've ever seen heavier rain than Friday was in Giru in 1967,
it rained an inch an hour for just over 16 hours..... That was heavy
rain.

Not actually. I don't really have fav Zapa songs, more fav albums
(Joe's Garage). But if I had to pick a track, "hot rats" or "peaches on
regalia" would prolly be it.

I'm gonna ring my mate Michael Speck and dob you right in.....

(Now watch Barnsey come back and tell us it was a legit iTunes download)

Just about anything by Zappa is just fine by me.

Usually people upgrade the size of the drivers side battery, then this is
big enough to run everything, I am told the main reason for the second
battery is ease of starting, the engine systems etc drain no more power than
a petrol model, the only difference is the glow plugs. So after installing a
big capacity battery in the drivers side you rehash the wiring so everything
runs off that battery, then change the other battery and install a third
battery in the passenger side inner guard ( both being the largest gel
batteries you can fit in the holders, more power per square inch) talk to
ARB or someone like them as they have a holder that takes the third battery
with all the holes in the right places. If you are travelling all the time
(each day) you don't really need a third battery, on our last trip to Cairns
we had the fridge in the car and the lights in the van running off the
standard car batteries overnight and the 100 series started no problem each
morning, but if you intend on stopping for a few days then you will need
them.

Thanks for the reply.

I will visit ARB and have a chat..

It shouldnt be too hard to run everything off the one battery.

Good Idea.

Tahnks again for the reply....appreciated.
