G'day, my dads buying a new mazda 6, the only thing he doesnt
like is the red colour on the display for the cd and climate controls,
would an auto electrician be able to change the colour? are they just a
colourd gobe or are they different in new cars, he loves the rest of the
car,
just not the colour of the head unit thingy..
the mazda 6 has that new tripmatic , manual and auto mode , its a very nice
car for under the $35 k , he had an 2002 mazda 6 but was written off in a
car acident, no fault from him,
also i know with custom plates u have to hand them back to the rta if not on
a car, but what happens with standard plates?

In WA you can transfer them between cars, and you can get the DPI to hold
them if you don't have a car to put them on, the same as custom plates.

Changing the radio display colour will probably require pulling it apart and
changing a dozen or more surface mounted LEDs on the circuit board.
This is quite tricky work, and requires precision use of a soldering iron.
Plenty of people have done this kind of thing before, hunt around on google
for car audio websites.
If you're not inclined to try it yourself, you'd probably want to ask an
electronics repair place, they might have the right skills to do this job.
Or just learn to live with the red colour. :-)

If you f.ck with anything, you risk voiding the warranty. Yes, even for
changing the dash lights.
Ring up the dealer and ask them if it will void warranty, if not, get *them*
to install the new lights to avoid any possible hassles down the track.
Any manufacturer will try to get out of a warranty for the smallest thing.

Unless the radio is intergrated(Like the BA Fords) or plays DVDs then
spend $400 and replace it with an aftermarket MP3 player

Tell your dad to stop being such a shallow bastard for starters.
Then buy him a blue marker pen or whatever colour filters red to make
it blue (won't happen) so tell him to stop being a shallow bastard.
