Yep, they're a great looking car.

I'd be losing the wheels and crappy grille insert if it were mine, and
having a polished 6-71 and injector hat sticking out the bonnet as well.

**Great looking? In what sense? That it looks better than a Leyland P76 and
almost every large 4WD made? Sure. Other than that, it STILL looks like a
300C. IOW: It looks like a POS. It is STILL the ugliest sedan on the planet.
Bar none. Not even the Mitsu 380 is uglier.

**Hmmm. (Thinks). Not sure. There's a few nice ones. The Accord Euro is nice
(the other one looks like sh.t). The Falcon looks OK. The Commodore is sort
of OK. The Mazda 6 is quite nice. I'm warming to the new Beemers, but I
still like the look of the old models. Nothing I'd call "pretty", but not
unattractive. The 300C is just butt-ugly. REALLY ugly. The most unpleasant
looking automobile I've seen since the abominations from the US in the early
1980s. It is surprisingly, staggeringly, stunningly ugly. P76 ugly.

BTW: The Camry is almost as ugly as the 300C.

I agree the Mazda 6 and Honda Accord Euro (Acura TSX in the US) are
gorgeous. But they're four-cylinder FWD cars. If Mazda had a six-cylinder
RWD version, I would've considered.

The Falcons and Commodores are okay. But they're used for taxis and fleet
cars. Why would I want to drive something which looks like a taxicab or a
rental?

So I decided to get the Lexus IS250: 6-cylinder and RWD. For one, it doesn't
look like a Telstra service car. For another, I save 20 grand for the same
spec of a BMW (BIG MONEY WASTER) 3-series.

**NO argument from me. The IS250 looks like an excellent choice on paper. As
for looks, it is the same as all the Lexus range. Ordinary.

**Additions and amplifications. Of the Falcons, I find the XR series to be
particularly attractive. Some of the Subaru Liberty range look bloody good.

**Well, I just went for a drive and took the boss with me. I pointed at one
in the local car yard (they sell Beemers  too). "Humph". She said. "It sure
is one ugly car. I can't put my finger on it, but it just looks all wrong".
By comparison, the big BMWs (which she also doesn't like) looks nice.

You said earlier that you'd compare the 300C to a Fairlane. Why not consider
a Fairlane? At least they look as though they were designed within the last
few years. Do you REALLY like the looks of the 300C, or is it the equipment
and specs? I would never argue that point. Consider the Subaru WRX. One
butt-ugly car, but I would own one. Brilliant on the road. Besides, like the
300C, when you're driving the thing, you don't have to look at it.

Well, you and your boss seem to be in the minority.

Most people I've spoken to think the 300C looks great, and the fact that
it's selling extremely well would seem to suggest that a lot of people
agree.

The Fairlane looks extremely cheap and nasty, and that's exactly why it's
sales figures are very poor.

I like the all round package, and think the car looks sensational.

It has a fantastic engine, a great interior package and a physical pressence
that's very impressive. It epitomises the *perfect* cruiser to me, which is
exactly what I think it is.

Yeah, but if that was *really* the case, the last model Magna would have
sold very well :)

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I know lots of blokes that love the
look, I don't know one female that does.
It would seem that you are sitting in with the girls on this one.

**The 300C has power steering, right? That makes it a chick's car in my
book. Both my VH Dunny dore and VL (shod with 225 tyres) had no power
assisted steering. No chick could park it. In fact, a goodly number of girly
boys had trouble with it as well.

stay with the keg and your 300C. I'll hang with the women.

Well... not sad if it's what actually happens.

Bring it up as a point in a conversation that's totally unrelated to
the conversation on the internet, it's real real... real sad.

One point that I seem to be missing, you say a 300C is a girls car
therefore the OP would be sitting next to a girl if he stayed with
his 300C, so you're telling him to hang with women as well.

You've conducted an extensive survey about this, or you just have a "gut
feeling" because you know what women want? :)

Personally, I couldn't give a rats what women think looks good or not. I

So does mine.
It's a bit like the Daimler Limousine versus the Jaguar 420G.
Wife thinks the Daimler is butt ugly and the other really nice, as do a lot
of women.  Then there are the others who think the Daimler is regal and
beautiful and the lines of the 420G suck!  :-)

Good thing we all have different tastes.

The ones who think the 300C is hideous are possibly the people who think
the new magna is stunning :-)

**Wouldn't surprise me. I was in the US in 1995. The only RWD car I could
rent was a Ford T-Bird. It was actually pretty decent on the road. Some
friends rented a Oldsmobile something or other. It was big and had good
headroom for my mate who is nearly 2 Metres tall. When he was in the T-Bird,
I had to open the Sunroof for him. Anyway, I rode in his rental car one
night through the car park of Caesar's Palace. It FELT like someone had
stripped the car down, removed the springs and shocks and replaced them with
foam rubber. It was a horrible car.

No, it's not, and that's an important point most people who criticise it
seem to overlook.

Anyone who downloaded the video kicking around a couple of weeks ago would
be reasonably impressed with it's ability on the track for a 4000+lb car.
From the looks of things, it would most likely be on a par with a Falcadore,
and that would do me just dandy.

Jaguar XJ's were always built and sold as "sports cars".

They might have been the worlds heaviest sports car, and they might not have
been a true sports car in the traditional sense, but that is what their
chassis engineering was aimed at (and for what it's worth, I think they did
a good job considering the weight of the things, and their other
"shortcomings).

The 300C doesn't seem to be aimed at anything other than being a comfortable
cruiser, much like a Statesman or LTD. That doesn't make it a bad car, just
a *different* one.

> No, I'm comparing a $60k car with a $6k one. About time they caught up.

6 grand for an XJ series Jag is being a tad optimistic, doncha think? :)

The XJ might handle reasonably well for a big heavy car, but only a person
with a very loose grip on reality could suggest that they're a very good
handling machine. They were *good* for what they were, but in the grand
scheme of things they were never brilliant. Not by *any* stretch of the
imagination.

Given the massive failings of the rest of the XJ, the 300C couldn't be as
bad is it was built in Czechoslovakia by a bunch of Gypsies with Down
syndrome.

styling like beauty is always subjective

you just have to get into that West coast rapper, East coast mafia type
vibe.

Tony Soprano would love the 300c.

I like it. It isn't pretty but it's purposeful like a Cadillac CTS-V or
even a Escalade.

That car is doing the rounds.. there's a white one that also looks
the goods. Showcase the car really well, but off the showroom it
still looks a touch dodgy to me.
