This model is a dramatic improvement on the previous (2001) model I
owned. It handles like a dream and find it hard to believe it came from
the same factory as the last one I had.

This model is a Four speed auto and have noticed that after selecting
fourth gear, it drops another 500 rpm. Does this mean that the torque
convertor disengages at a given speed/rpm as it does on some of the
European cars. I once owned a 1995 Ford Modeo that did the same thing in
 third and fourth gear.

Hi quanset, I also have a new Rio auto hatch and it's amazing value for
money.  Quiet, solid and really enjoyable to drive.

As far as I can tell, the auto will "lock-up" in 3rd at about 50kmh and
4th at 60kmh.  In effect it feels almost like a 6 speed auto!  You'll
notice that when it does lock-up, the revs drop about 500 in both gears.

I've driven many small autos over the years and this box is the best I've
experienced.

Enjoy your car, I know I am!!

Rick
