Hi all,

Just wondering what (if any) brands of car batteries are considered the
best in terms of lifespan?

Or are they all much the same?

Cheers,

Andy.

Put it this way, if you spend $200 on a battery it will usually last more than 4 times what a $50
battery will last.

I like Yuasa batteries.  My last one in my private car lasted me nearly 8 years.  My work vehicle
had a cheap K Mart special that came with a 6 month warranty.  It lasted 6 months and 1 week.

I second that recommendation.

You do know that Yuasa and Century batteries are the same
they are made in the same factory in Carroll Park in Brisbane

The Japanese and Korean made Yuasa batteries I've used have had
impressively long life.  I haven't tried an Australian-made
one.

My choice has been Exide, from their premium range.  They usually cost
less than a hundred bucks (if you install yourself) and after putting
one in I have never had to replace the battery in that car again.  I
will be the first to say there are probably better quality brands out
there, but I have always found the Exide to be reliable.

Be sure to get a battery with at least the same CCA or CCC rating (Cold
Cranking Amps or Cold Cranking Current) as your old battery, preferably
one with 10-20% more.

Yep, it surprised me at first since I was of the impression
that Yuasa were the best, and Century were crap... of course
that decision was made on earlier imported Yuasa as OEM in
imported ToyCo products.

Recently tossed a Century that was used for water pump duty
on the farm and various other stuff, while not a craptastic(tm)
product I didn't have the general impression I do of JapCo
Yuasa. Of course, it might not have lived an ideal life.

You tend to get what you pay for but lead-calcium are usually the best
(and cost a bit more) irrespective of brand.  They also have other
advantages in addition to a longer life.

Battery life also varies according to climate -- they all last a lot
longer a lower temperatures.

My experiences with the original Delco calciums (Delcor -- made in
USA) were particularly good.  Unfortunately no one near me seems to
stock them any more.

Does someone still sell genuine AC Delco's?

Spend a little bit more (Little bit being around $200 extra) and get an
Ultimate battery. 10 Year expected life and around 1000cca. Can install
anywhere and they do have deepcycle and marine style. Ive found the Red tops
best for allround auto use.

About $340 each. Not seen anything better.
