I wouldn't bet on that. Lasseter and Arnhem Hwy's already gone. There seems
to be little real evidence that high speed is responsible for many accidents
up here on the Stuart Hwy and mostly its alcohol, lack of seatbelts, going
to sleep and probably avoiding wild life that is killing people. Sooner or
later Canberra will pressure our "fine leaders" into doing something and the
most we can hope for is something like a compromise of 130 or thereabouts.
Everytime Wheels or Motor magazines do an acticle on their high speed NT
runs, they just help to bring that day closer.

What about, roadtrains, army convoys, tourist caravan convoys, overseas
tourists on wrong side of road, horses, donkeys (4 legged), camels, cattle,
wild pigs (again, 4 legged) etc etc.

In reality, at any time the police could book you if in their opinion they
thought that you were driving dangerously etc, so it's not really an open
limit.

So do I, but the Stuart is less "fun" that it was 20-30 years ago, and
there's still a small stretch of the old road from Adelaide River township
to Hayes Ck (now called a "scenic route") if anyone wants to see what narrow
bitumen we used to have. What a joy it was to try passing roadtrains or
having them coming at you. South of the border in the early 1980's used to
be best of all (800Km of dirt).

Well you had bugger all deaths at Christmas so it's a bit embarrassing
for eastern states.
Looks like NSW won the highest easter death toll. Damn, they always seem
to win.

I don't take sides.
It's more fun to insult everyone.
