Is not Mitsubishi the ones who said they would not discount? And dont 70% of their sales go to the Government? And how many 380s have they sold?

Or is all your talk about "I'm sure you have a full working knowledge of tax structures and liabilities here as well as details of any maintenance plans coincidental with the various contract" just hand flapping and you dont have a clue?

OK, I'll say it slowly. The prices are not "over inflated" nor even inflated. The fact that you can 'lease' a VRX at some Govt discount rate has absobloodylootly nothing to do with Joe Public buying a car, new or 2nd hand. He needs to pay the price the dealer asks with some negotiation NOT a price given to a Govt that is buying thousands of vehicles annually.
>Nor have you answered my question about >how much you can get off a Fairlane/Statesman. I have absolutely no idea what you could get off a Statesman, you're the guy who can get $9000 off a 380...you find out.
>Or is all your talk about >"I'm sure you have a full working knowledge of tax structures and >liabilities here as well as details of any maintenance plans coincidental >with the various contract" > just hand flapping and you dont have a clue? Huh?
You're the one tossing around numbers...and ranting about the different contract prices (that you call discounts) offered by various manufacturers so, I'll say it again "I'm sure you have a full working knowledge of tax structures and liabilities here as well as details of any maintenance plans coincidental with the various contract"
That would go some way toward explaining your dilema.

Yes it does. The value tells me how inflated the car auctions of ex-gov cars are. And so do the dealers.
> He needs to pay the price the dealer asks with some negotiation NOT a > price given to a Govt that is buying thousands of vehicles annually. Errr the government is buying thousands of 380s? To use your words: Bwahh!
>>Nor have you answered my question about >>how much you can get off a Fairlane/Statesman. > > I have absolutely no idea what you could get off a Statesman, you're > the guy who can get $9000 off a 380...you find out. I know. It makes getting the Statesman, the pollies favourite car a better choice than the 380. Ohh the Fairlane looks sh.t from the outside, but is not the Falcon a better car overall than a Commodore? So a Fairlane is better than a Commodore: or even a 380.

Mitseeshitsee 380 Magna, dealer used cars, 82, private sales 2. Ranging from 10 to 10,000km??
Mitseeshitsee 380 Magna, new cars 114!
Must be one hell of a flop! :-) The secondhand dealers are trying to get new car prices on the old ones..LOL I'll bet if you offered them a third of that price, they would be all over you like a rash :-)
This is the same path the Leyland, Marina and P76 went.
FWIW, Redbook:
2005 Magna Trade in price guide* $14,000 - $15,700 price when new $33,890
2005 Commodore Trade in price guide* $16,200 - $18,400 price when new $33,650
2005 Falcon Trade in price guide* $16,100 - $17,900 price wnen new $34,555
I seriously doubt anyone could get 14 grand for a 2005 magna.

Reaper - 19 Apr 2006 07:40 GMT > Its not the upfront discount, its the resale that most managers are really > concerned about. Actually it's both. To put it in as basic terms as possible for the simpletons out there:
(Purchase price of car - Resale price of car) + the cost of financing the car = vehicle cost.
The differences in fuel usage between the 6 cyl 380/Falcon/Commodore are not as high on the priority list as the vehicle cost as defined above.

I'd buy it on the three-year-old mark. The value would be less than 50% of original purchase. But a three-year-old car with reasonable km's should still be reliable.

>> $6,000
> Nope: Government contract > $8,000 BTW this is partly a result of private buyers coming back to the dealer and saying "Ooohhh the dash rattles, pull it all apart! It's no good! Ohh it doesn't handle right that's no good for a $30,000 car fix it! Ooohh I've changed my mind I'm going to reneg on the deal, too bad you've paid for the car off the manufacturer, not my problem!"
This sort of crap, as well as the expense of glitzy showrooms and sleazy salesmen which private buyers demand is one reason why they pay $1000s extra. Govt./fleet buyers don't demand this stuff, they just want the car and that's all they pay for.
