Gday all.
Looking for opinions from owners of Nissan's X-trail. I'm thinkin' about
picking one up and wonder how they hold up over time.
How many Km's is the engine, etc, likely to last for if properly maintained
and the car used mainly for the 50k commute each day?
Are there any weak bits I should be paying extra attention to?
Does all that hard plastic start to rattle and squeek pretty quick?
How's the fuel economy in the real world?
Is it actually useful as an off-roader?
How's it go towing a 1200kg trailer?
Thanks all !!

Bought one a year ago for my business partner. Great car. Typical
bulletproof Nissan reliability. Really well thought out interior. I
wouldn't be towing anything that heavy with it. Fuel economy is good. No
rattles or squeaks. I've heard they are ok offroad but if you want to be
serious get a Patrol.

Hello!
We have one, mind u i hardly ever drive it *she* drives it all the
time, 21,000km
Fuel economy around city is approx 10L/100km
Brakes are BRILLIANT, as is internal passenger room and driving comfort
Its a excellent and reliable vehicle like most Japanese products [u can
rent them from Budget so try for a weekend, b4 u buy] great for familes
They have the strongest resale of any small suv
Engine lasting? How long is a piece of string?
I know a fellow who has one and has done near 300,000km.He is doing
near 1500km a week
No leaks, not rattles no oil burn.
At first he treated it like eggs, now he bashes it around his farm with
a trailer to get firewood and says it handles that no problem
They are NOT a hardcore 4x4 but suitable for most bush tracks, and i
was very impressed with the series-1 we had [now have a S2] off road
was much better than i expected. It climbed the power-line-track at
Anglesea which i thought it would not even look at but yeah,,,,straight
up!
What i DONT like:
Steering is to light
Body roll
Internal plastic are easy to mark
Internal rear view mirror vibrates
Engine not quiet enough
Brake dust on front wheels
Not a chick magnet:-)
A Aussie XTrail club exists if you want the URL inform me
Its what Ford and Holden should be building
Oh and it is NOT a gay vehicle, because it does not have a picnic table
LOL!

The new ones have soft plastic. Good. I have a 3 year old one, the
missus is allergic to the dash fumes. No squeeks at all, except for
rubbing on the foam in the wheel well on occasion..
I drive mine like a sports car! My friend was so impressed with it he
got one too for his wife but never lets her use it it seems.
Done 68ks in mine. Never a problem. Would buy a manual next time
since the kick down sometimes causes a momentary stall on overtaking.
Otherwise good powerful engine.
Inteterior works well. But buy a protector for the back since the hard
plastic sratches easy.
Used it on dirt roads. On occasion I have engaged 4wd you can smell
it. Leave it in auto and it wont fail you. (do they now include ESP in
the AU version?). Not suited for serious work as the wheel travel etc
is insufficient. But good and handy to drive over kerbs.
Towed a double axle trailer at times. Never a problem but fuel goes
out of the window. Expect 10L/100 on average.
Hope this helps.
