Howdy, I have a VT comm (89) 100000 k's on clock, (exactly.. well 99981)
while driving @ 100k's or so, box will drop back to 3rd, and wont go back
in, Key off (while moving) and back on and it will go back in for X amount
of k's and again dropping back to 3rd later on. with trip comp in diagnostic
mode (mode and V key held in while ignition on) the motor temp hovers around
92Degs, digi speed indicator reads 100-103 etc. all seems fine, no clunking,
no slipping, no high temp.

Solenoid ? sensor ? wear in box ?

Anyone ?

Going to have the scantool ran over it on Friday, but doubt it will give any
indicative codes on box.

When was the last time you had it serviced?

PLUG LEADS..... I have been told it could well be the plug leads failing
causing interference with the sensors etc. Its had regular services @
10,000k intervals by Motors.

Torque convertor lockup solenoid I suspect.

What is the colour/smell of the oil like? Does it smell burnt?

Dunno which scan tool you are using, but you can control the lockup solenoid
and shift solenoids as well as monitor their function with Tech 2.
