Probably 5% ethanol

I got some of this Shell stuff yesterday, and was highly suspicious. I read
all the stuff on the pump and it didn't mention ethanol. I have an oldish
car, and am pretty sure it isn't ethanol-friendly.

I bought a heap of the boost petrol on sale atm at $1.20.8 from the
local freedom ( you saw it on today tonight on 7) seems to work ok so
far in the foulcan , considering all the other locals were at least
$1.27.00 I consider it worth a try.

If it were they're hardly likely to claim better economy.

Ethanol will increase the octane rating (as its marketers rightfully
claim) and decrease the energy content (which tends not to get
mentioned).  That's to say, fuel economy will be worse.

Caveat emptor, they say.

This is an interesting tip:

"Conserve momentum - Instead of coasting when you reach a downward slope,
maintain steady engine revs.  This will mean you pick up speed, and if
you've then got a hill to climb, it gives you considerable added momentum to
help go up it, energy efficiently."

You shouldn't do this when there's a speed camera at the foot of the slope,
because I can GUARANTEE you that the speeding fine is HIGHER than the fuel
savings.

"we do not claim any particular degree of improvement - try it and judge for
yourself"

Says it all really.
