I think you have a month to change the rego, the exact time period might
vary from state to state but there is no reason you can't drive it as
long as its registered somewhere.
I know someone who moved from Melb. to Bris about 15yrs ago and they
still have a Vic registered vehicle and thats never caused then any problem.

I'm thinking three months. I've seen a LHD Toyota Pickup being
driven around, and any number other vehicles (some RHD with UK plates)
so YMMV on getting into exactly what is kosher.

Its all in:

http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/rego_new.html

Yes, if holding a current SA rego. Depending on if the vehicle meets the
NSW rego requirements and appropriate ADRs (that could bite you in the
arse though as I don't think SA has the yearly inspections?)

I have a friend with an SA rego vehicle. FIL in SA regos it for him.
That said, the vehicle is not a day to day driver as is a full size
older V8 Land Rover wagon, so you really would not wanna drive it
day to day. The towing capactity and full length roof rack cage make
it usefull from time to time when required.

If you can keep a low profile and stay in the decent suburbs just keep it
reg'd in SA. That assumes you changed the SA rego to your name.

Trans Am and "low profile" are kinda mutually exclusive though.
