At least in soccer you get the occasional broken leg to liven things up.

A soccer match could last a year and still have nothing happen, watching
grass growing is more exciting.
In recent times cricket matches are usually far from boring although in
the past they could be almost as dull as soccer:-)

Soccer is exciting and suspenseful where the final score isn't indicative of
the quality of the game, cricket is just plain boring except for the last
couple of overs of a close 1 day game, and Aussie rules and rugby are
brainless, skillless brawn games where the only thing that counts is the
number at the end.
